Update on One Twitching Year

I don't know how many of you remember me, I used to be "here" all the time last yr. Anyhow, let me give you an update. I am still twitching (this month will be a yr), have had a clean emg 3 wks into twitiching. Last time I saw a neuro was in august when I noticed a dent in my left things (atrophy?), he didn't want to do another emg, told me it wasn't atrophy...

Well here I am all freaked out once again. Right now I am 7 mos pregnant and my dent is still there. I HAVE NO WEAKNESS and the dent has been there since the end of july. I think it's getting bigger, but my husband doesn't... My twitching is basically in that leg (in front of the thigh, the dent is on the side), even though I have had it all over from time to time; it seems that it's only there now. I am sooooo freaked, maybe my pregnancy hormones are not helping the situation.

I know it's bad when I'm measuring my thighs once again!! I remember measuring them in august and they were 17" ea, now they're at 19" ea (yes, I've gained weight in pregnancy). This might sound irrational, but please bare w/ me: is it possible to have atrophy but at the same time the thigh affected get bigger? Or does muscle waisting have no effect if I am maybe just gaining fat in the area?

My husband thinks I'm totally irrational. He won't even look at the area any more even though I feel better when he does......... Could I have atrophy for 6 mos w/out weakness? I still go on the treadmill for a 1/2 an hr a day and don't seem to have problems. I do get the muscle aching (I have had that all along) in both legs, but mostly in the affected left thigh.

I will appreciate any input!!
ThanX,
Sandra

Sandra:

Sorry to hear of the troubles, but remember, trust the diagnosis of the TRAINED NEURO !! Your doctor would have told you to be worried if there was even the least sign of trouble. Physicians always would CYA if they thought it was anything. Stay calm. Enjoy your pregnancy and try to avoid over analysis. :D)

Hey Sandra,

I am 7 mos pregnant too! Cool. I had the dent in the thigh thing too, on the right side. It used to bother me, but for some reason I've let myself forget about it. I think it was caused from leaning against the bathroom sink on only that side everyday several times a day. Maybe that is a crazy thing to think...but it looked to be what might have caused it. If you had ALS you would be very incapacitated after one year, and not able to walk. I agree with the last guy...trust your neuro. OUr bodies aren't perfectly symmetrical...no need to worry endlessly over those idiosyncracies. Go out and do something you enjoy to take your mind off your woes. The less you worry, the less you twitch.

Peace,
Jen

Thank you both for responding.
Jenn, you have calmed my fears A LOT in the past! I will "try" and not think about this, but it is difficult...
Can't believe we're both preg! Good luck!

It is NOT possible to have visible atrophy for a half of year and not to have weakness. Forget about this dent - it's not atrophy.
Remember that your neuro saw it and told you it was not atrophy! He didn't say "I don't know, we must wait and see". he was sure so you also can be sure

regards
Marcin
