Two Months of Twitching: My Story

This time a year ago I had been twitching noticably for about two months. I was really starting to freak out, having researched "muscle fasiculations" on the internet and having found all of the things you'll uncover if you consult with Dr. Google. I've discussed my story a few times on here, so I won't get into the specifics again. Suffice it to say, I was not in a good place a year ago.Fortunately I saw a great neuromuscular specialist who gave me a thorough exam and cleared me of anything sinister. While I still notice a twitch from time to time, they seem fewer and far between. In reality, I probably twitch as much as I did a year ago, but you really move on and stop noticing it once you get over the fear and anxiety. This website worked miracles for me, and is an excellent place to educate yourself as well a communicate with other folks who know what you're going through. I hope any newbies who might read this will get themselves to a good neurologist ASAP and save themselves a lot of time and anguish. This stuff can literally make you miserable if you allow it to. Your twitching is most likely like everyone else on here...benign. The neuro probably won't be able to give you a definitive reason WHY you twitch, but they can rule out anything sinister. And YES...the twitches are typically benign...just a minor annoyance...nothing more, nothing less.DON"T LET BENIGN FASICULATIONS ADVERSELY IMPACT YOUR LIFE OR THE LIVES OF THOSE AROUND YOU. IF IT REALLY IS BOTHERING YOU, GET TO A NEURO ASAP. IF TWITCHING IS YOUR ONLY ISSUE, AND YOU'RE RATIONAL ENOUGH TO ACCEPT THAT TWITCHING IN THE ABSENCE OF OTHER SYMPTOMS IS NOTING TO WORRY ABOUT, FORGET ABOUT IT AND GET ON WITH YOUR LIFE. AND ALTHOUGH I KEEP THIS WEBSITE BOOKMARKED AND WOULD RATE IT AS ONE OF MY ALL TIME TOP 5 WEBSITES....GET OFF OF HERE AND ENJOY YOUR LIFE!!!! TAKE A WALK, READ A GOOD BOOK, LISTEN TO SOME MUSIC, EAT SOME GOOD FOOD, HAVE A GLASS OF WINE OR A COLD BEER OR A STIFF DRINK, ENJOY A GOOD CIGAR, SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH YOUR LOVED ONES...DO ANYTHING BUT SIT AROUND DWELIING ON A BENIGN TWITCH.

Seven years from symptoms to dx? You read the internet like the devil read the bible. You have to listen to the neuros and not the sufferers. When you visit a MS-site then EVERY symptom on that site has something to do with MS. If you visit an ALS-site then every symptom have something to do with that disease. Meaning if you find a post with twitches on an ALS-site then the twitches are usually caused by ALS. If you find a post on a MS-site regarding pain then the pain has something to do with MS. But that doesnt mean that YOUR pain and YOUR twitches has something to do with MS or ALS. When it takes several years to make a dx it is usually becourse the doctors are looking for something else - more likely - first when a patient has a weak arm or got pain in his back for example. With you the apporach is different. You jump into the doctors office and claim that you got MS or ALS. The doctors KNOW what to look for in order to rule these nasty things out and they make an examination. After a few minutes they KNOW you dont have anything very evil, but of course, something is going on but its not serious.Unfortunately you trust the internet more than the doctors. And why? FEAR is the answer to this. You fear is fueled by the internet and sites with awful information. Sufferers complaining about stuff. And believe me. If you look long enough then you WILL find a similar case on the net with a sufferer who felt the same as you before the disease took him out. You have to make a choice now. Do you believe on the experts (who actually saw your body) or do you believe the internet-dx? Do you want your life back or do you want to throw it in the gutter? As somebody else wrote here: Not to belive the dx borders psychosis. You have been examined, and you where cleared. No matter what happens you did what you should have done. There are nothing more you can do anyway, so why not start living?
