I've had two EMG's conducted (had a second due to anxiety). The thing that amazed me was the difference in the two.
The first one took about 30 minutes and involved barely flexing a muscle to get a reading. The most difficult aspect was probably holding a mild muscle flex at that same level. The flexing also lasted 30 seconds to a minute for each muscle.
The second EMG took about 10 minutes and involved me pushing against relatively firm resistance. The flexing was of a much shorter duration (~5-10 seconds). The number of muscles tested in each exam was similar.
The difference seemed completely a function of the examiner, as the second person was not aware of the other examination. What are others' experiences regarding the length and resistance in their EMG exams?
