Twitching with Fibromyalgia?

Hi DD,

I was actually diagnosed many years ago by a rheumatologist with fibromyalgia. My symptoms at the time were tender, sore muscles, insomnia, exercise intolerance and other things...but no twitching. Years later I began to twitch. I already had the Fibromyalgia diagnosis. I never asscociated the twitching with the fibro, but I have seen it listed on Fibromyalgia web-sites. I guess that it all can go together very nicely.

My original diagnosis was fibro, but not because of twitching, because of weakness and neurological symptoms. I also had chronic aching in certain limited areas.
Fibromyalgia is being understood more in the context of a neurological disorder, so more and more neuros are treating it as such. My neuro couldn't find anything else wrong with me, so that was his waste-basket dx.

I was then examined by a rheumie, who concurred.

The problem for me was, I never had the tender points, at least not enough of them, and my sleep is generally not disordered. I might go through a few weeks at a time of insomnia, but I credit my hormones for that moreso than any syndrome.

So, once I read "bfs in a nutshell" and saw the extent of weakness, tremors and other strange neuro symptoms that were encompassed within bfs, I dx'ed myself, and my doc agreed.

I've been groovy ever since.

But yes, Fibromyalgia is a consideration especially if you have the classic tender points and difficulty sleeping.

You just need to be careful because it can tend to be a default diagnosis. It doesn't much matter, because the treatments for Fibromyalgia and bfs (excercise and anti-depressants) are similar.

Blessings,
Sue
