Twitching with BFS: Scared

Hello all, I haven't posted in a while. I have had a terrible bout with BFS but have never really been as scared as I am today. About 3 hours after I woke up this morning, went to work and started working, my left forefinger twitched and pulled violently toward the thumb. Then the muscle between the forefinger and thumb started to twitch non-stop. There's also twitching in the palm, the pinky and the muscle in between the middle and forefinger. And now I have just started twitching literally everywhere in the left hand. I cannot even begin to describe this. I feel like my hand is having a siezure. I wish I could record it. This is happening all at once, non-stop. No stopping at all. Twitching multiple times per second. Rapid fine twitching mixed with very harsh twitching. The only "pre-event" I had was tingling in my pinky and ring fingers this morning, and that was about it. The tingling is starting in my right hand now.I just had an EMG on the right arm which was clean as a whistle. But the twitching is on the left hand. What the heck?!?! I have never had the rapid fire non-stop twitching for hours in fingers. I am going on over 5 hours of this. I am freaking out a little bit. Grrrr.

Hi there, don't panic, weird stuff happens and I am sure that's all this is. Have you done anything different in the last day or two? Any new meds or anything. Read back to some of Sean's posts and you find that some of the people here have had stuff of that nature happen with their hands. Be assured that as terrifying as this is, you're not the only one to have something like this happen. Hope it settles down before the day is over for you.BlessingsCindy

I can't tell you how many weird things like that have happened to me over the years. On and off I've had my left leg twitch and buzz constantly, like you say, it almost felt like a seizure and it's continued for a long time. Be assured that it's nothing serious as the twitching comes and goes---sometimes a little stronger, longer or more widespread than at other times! Your EMG is proof that you're fine, even if the EMG was on the other hand---as we all know, it still would have shown anything serious. Best Wishes and hope this doesn't last too much longer! Denise

I notice you dont say weakness...thats the main thing just twitching and normal strength you sound fine to me. Perhaps some nerve along the way maybe trapped somwhere ?

Hello and thank you for the responses. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary (pills, food, etc.) Didn't sleep on the hand funny. I didn't discern any weakness at the time. There's some slowness of the hand especially with typing... like right now. Harder to push down on the keys with the left hand. I have to really concentrate on my left hand to make sure I hit the right keys. More concerning to me is the second interosseous muscle, as it is going gangbusters and has been doing so all day today. Mostly very fine twitches that cannot be felt in this area. They have a sinister look to them, although I am well aware that there really is no such thing as a sinister twitch. I have had foot drop in the past, which self resolved. I have had clinical weakness in the right arm which persists and is only noticeable when using force to pick up heavy objects. I have cramping (not just myalgic-like pain) in the calves and forearms. To top it off I have atrophy in the left inner forearm, about two inches below the elbow. There's a whole muscle missing. I had Lyme disease, but I do not believe that this and Lyme are connected. Neither do my physicians. I have not had a good day since mid-December and everything has gone downhill despite multiple clean EMG's (right and left legs, right arm). I have continuous deep jaw fasciculations, calves, thighs, buttocks, eyebrow, cheek, tongue, nose, lip, chest, stomach, groin, ankle, toe, etc twitching. The patterns are random and I can often ignore them. But the finger twitching really unnerves me as it doesn't want to stop. And the second interosseous muscle.....well......it looks like the infamous shoulder twitch video on YouTube. Just freaky. I cannot vacuum, wash dishes, rake leaves, or even walk more than 1 mile without falling apart and being spent for two days.Nothing has ever been diagnosed after multiple MRI's, EMG's, blood work, etc. Just BFS, Lyme and myofascial syndrome. For the first time I am actually scared.Yeah, I am being whiny. I just really have a bad feeling all of the sudden.

"Nothing has ever been diagnosed after multiple MRI's, EMG's, blood work, etc. Just BFS, Lyme and myofascial syndrome.".....Well, we can rule out ALS and I guess all of the other nasty ones.....which is good, isn't it?Trust the people here when they tell you it is really nothing to worry about...
