Twitching Tongue: Causes?

Hi, long time twitcher here (2+ years). Doesn't really even phase me any more... been rather zen about it for awhile. However, I started having some tongue issues that oddly enough started when I took my temperature each morning for fertility monitoring. During the temperature taking, my tongue would start to spasm. Its much different than the normal tongue twitch - its like the whole thing gets tight and undulates over and over for a minute or two. Then after a few days, it also happened after I took the thermometer out. Then it started happening once or twice at night... now its actually waking me up from my sleep. My speech is fine, my tongue strength appears to be fine (my own non-professional assessment). The spasms, or whatever they are, are not painful, although my tongue is very achy lately. Another weird thing to add to the mix, I feel like I am blowing grapepie when I speak sometimes. Very strange, I know.I am panicked. PANICKED....Any similar experiences or thoughts? Many thanks.

my understanding is that if it were something bad, it was be twitching all the time, not just once in a while... does that help? You say you've been twitching for two years, is that all over your body?

Thanks for responding...Yes, I twitch everywhere, including my tongue. You name it, I twitch there! But I don't feel like this is a twitch (its like nothing I've experienced)... the whole tongue moves. Tightens, pushes up against the teeth, releases like a wave. Very disconcerting,So I'm kind of having having a really hard time dealing. Just wondering if this is bfs related.

it really doesn't sound like anything bad. probably a variation of bfs symptoms... Like how sometimes you get a single twitch and sometimes it twitches several times in one spot and feels differently... tongue is just a muscle, a big muscle... so don't fret, i think it's just bfs-related.

I get the tongue spasm all the time (I know that several of us here get it as well). It's like the tongue contracts and releases… I also get the twitches on the tongue, but I do agree that this is a weird one. I've been having this for almost 11 months now. My neuro claims that these are just some irregular tongue movements, nothing more. After 2 years with BFS you should know by now that you are just fine!! :) Regards,May

Thanks May,That is extremely reassuring! Now I just have to figure out why just at night or when I'm waking in the morning. Hmmm. Anyway, thanks all for the responses. Really does help.

There is someone on this board who says he gets tongue cramps. So far I only get tiny twitches and what feels like a jolt of electricity or a quick shock. Does anyone get this electrical/shock sensation? Krackersones
