Twitching Tongue: BFS

Morne,

My tongue has been twitching off and on for a year. Some people with bfs experience this - others not. My neuro assured me it was "just another muscle" and can twitch if that area is affected.

Do not let this worry you at all in absence of other symptoms.

My tongue twitches for about 5 Months (i'm in the sixth now). I also have a lump in the throat and a clicking popping sound when i swallow (so its scary i tell you).
My neuro told me that Als comes with a jaw reflex in combination with the tongue twitch (Uff i dont have this).
Dysphagia?? I sometimes have a weird sensation when i swallow. Then 2 minutes later it is gone.
However one is sure. When my tongue twitches a lot my whole mouth system has problems. When it doesn't twitch a lot it is back to normal. What i have found out is that testing my tongue makes things only worse.

Thank you for all that.

I was wondering now what a jaw refelx is, and are there any real veteran tongue twitchers as in "years down the line"?

If this condition has nothing to do with als, then surely it must go away some time in the future?

My tongue has twitched on and off for seven years. It's kinda bad today actually.

I'm pretty darn sure benzos make it worse. As does thinking about it.

Did any of you get an answer to your question about the jaw reflex? I hve never heard of this. Occasionally my tonque twitches, not often. Mostly when stressed. But my jaw muscle does also (like many other muscles in my body) ocasionally twitch.

Like to hear back on this subject.

Are you all talking about the Jaw Jerk reflex?

That is when a neuro (you can't perform this on yourself) puts their finger between your lower lip and chin and taps on it with a reflex hammer. Normally, the jaw doesn't move. Although, some people do have Jaw jerk reflex. There is a certain angle in which they need to hit the finger.

This is one test that needs to be done with precise accuracy and tapped with precision, also. Don't attempt this on your own!
