Twitching Thumb and Forefinger

Does anyone else have experience twitching between their thumb and forefinger. My recent bout started in my left calf - then moves into my left foot - then was in my right calf for a little. Well it amazingly has stopped in my left calf for the most part and is in the right thumb area. It is really jerking bad and as i work with a mouse all day and a computer its driving me nuts. I didnt mind the claves and foot too much cause if it started bugging me too much i would just stand up and walk a bit - walking for me always made the twitching stop only seemed to flare up when i was sitting and leegs relaxed. I dont know what to do to stop the thumb - its in one of the worst sopts - I started squeezing something really right when it bugs me too much - its seems to work ok cause it kinda tightens up the thumb muscle a bit which sems to help for some treason. I guess on the bright side if i keep squeezing things all day ill develop a huge fore arm. Anyone have any tip to help the thumb twitch - i wish it would go back to my calf!!

Grasshopper,I dont really have any tips, but the same thing happens with me only in the left hand. It has been constant for about a year now. I will get some real serious twitching every couple of months that jerks my thumb all over the place, but there are constant fasciculations, real fine ones on the muscle on the top of my hand from the thumb to the index finger, it cause a constant tremoring of the thumb. If I dont constantly move my thumb around it will start to shake more intensely. I have had none, zero, of this on my right hand. These same fasciculations occur on the main thumb muscle on the palm of my hand. The nerve conduction studies I have had picked up Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in both my hands, real bad in my left, although I have no physical symptoms such as the hand falling asleep, I know exactly what it feel likes as I had it really bad when I was younger. The muscle on top is starting to atrophy, and my left hand is much weaker than my right, which is typical with carpal tunnel, my neruo said not to worry, but it will only get worse unless I get a simple operation to relieve the pressure on the median nerve, which is on my list of things to do. I mention the atrophy and weakness just to put out there that alot of differnt things can cause it. I have never read of a relationship between twitching and carpal tunnel, but I have constant twitching in that hand, so there may be a relationship between the two. Keep carpal tunnel in mind, especially if you work at a computer alot, the typical symptoms do not have to be present for you to be effected by it.

I didn't have much finger twitching but did develop what I termed "moused arm" where tension of using the mouse over long periods of time caused so much cramping that I couldn't turn my head in that direction. So maybe what I did will help. I changed the position of my screen and keyboard so that my arm, shoulder, neck and wrist could be relaxed but still functional. Also I checked my posture frequently during long sessions to make sure the spine was erect and back straight with shoulder blades aligned with hips (not forward or back). This really helps if you are not there all day - if you are then you really have to get up and stretch more frequently to keep things as relaxed as possible and your circulation working for you. It's not like this is going to cure the twitch but it will help - it does, however, take some getting used to as you have to maybe break some habits. It may be basic ergonomics but the main focus is on a relaxed and aligned body. Let me know if it helps you.

I don;t have any tips to stop it neither, but I too developed this thumb twitching / jerkis recently, after a year of twitching all over the place. Norlam EMG, neuro exams, RMI et tutti quanti. That's just one of the hot spots I guess, that and the eyelids seem to be fascics-friendly places. I never did twitch there until recently. So I just wanted to say that yes, it does happen as part of BFS. Nothing that I know could stop it, just don;t panic over it,
