Twitching Lips & Eyes: Acceptable, Tongues: Why Not?

Why is lip and eye twitching so acceptable, but not the tongue? I mean eye and lip is caused by stress according to everything on the internet. Why is tip of tongue not? The tip of my tongue and my lip are both twitching right now. Why is one supposed to be scarier then the next?

I mean from the medical community standpoint. If i call my neuro and say my eye and lip is twitching he will laugh ar me. If i say my tongue is he would say come in for exam. Now he just laughs at me for everything, but you get the point.

I have told both Mass General and the Mayo Clinic that my tongue twitches every day. Neither of them have EMG'd it or even LOOKED at it! So they clearly don't find it worrisome. -Matt

The reason eye twitches are sometimes thought to be "more benign" than tongue twitches is because they are more common, not only with us BFSers but also with the general public. In reality, we know that a tongue twitch is just as harmless as an eye twitch. Also, it doesn't really make sense to say something is "more benign". It either IS benign, or it isn't. Our twitches are benign....ALL of them.

One more thing: My girlfriend showed me her tongue yesterday and it goes nuts (in my eyes this would be twitching but i think it isn´t in the eyes of a doc), also she has a twitch over the eye which you could see in the light but she doesn´t feel for ages, but she doesn´t have bfs. I think it´s very difficult to make a difference between normal movement and a twitch if you are not a professional.

Hiya, I only know i have tongue twitches because i ....can most definitely feel them.........i agree tongues do have natural movement ive checked my hubs and 4 daughters all move....but they feel nothing.........i have had eye lid twitches upper and lower lids either side, happen every day not all day but a lot ...for months on end .......as they are more common i worry less about them.... very annoying but i can cope...apart from the nasty i sill find the T twitch very strange .........

I totally agree with Snookie. Lots of people aren't sure if they are having tongue twitches because it moves so much. BUT, as a tongue twitcher, I will tell you that mine are undeniable. Very easily felt and easily seen as well. (see my videos, lol) I also have both upper and lower eyelid twitches since January. All I have to do is sneeze, cough, rub my eyes, or even close them hard to set them off! But if I could eliminate any twitch, it would be the tongue twitch for sure.
