Wow - I was quite shocked to fnd this site. I have had twiching on and off over the years 3 years ago I had twitching in my left eye and temple for a month straight - then t kind of just went. For the past couple weeks I have had twitching in my left calf and now in my left foot - sometimes during the day its almost non stop other times its not. Its usually when im sitting at my desk at work or at some sittin on the couch. Also leff frequently I get twitches in my arm, shoulder, elbow, hand.I always thought his was normal and happened to everyone? I didnt know it is actually a condition? Should I be seeing a doctor if I twitch alot? I went to see him for peridic tingling and a heavy feeling in my arm and leg - he did an exam of my strength and balance etc and sent me for a ct scan of my head which was fine. I never thought to mention my twitching. Finally why do people associate their twitching with ALS? Is it because of the intetnet and it being listed a symptom? Im not worried about that - should I be? Again this is a shock to me I though this was just a normal aoccurance in anyone because my GF says she get the same thing to a lesser extent as well. I dont even really feel I should see a doctor - its not like this is effecting my ability to do anything - what do you guys think? In anycase nice to see this forum interesting reading.

Most people do twitch - heck, my cat and my dog twitch. But what people here have is a persistent and sometimes progressive twitching and multiple other symptoms that can cause a person to make adjustments in their life. So no, it's not the normal fluttering muscle that we're talking about, it's peripheral nerve hyperexcitability. Read the informational sections first in the FAQs section and Articles before you read the posts. Why so many people are concerned about other diseases; the internet with lots of free advice and unqualified speakers? the fear when you get something that you don't understand? the anxiety that people get when they have a condition few doctors know about? I don't know, personally I'm not afraid it's something else but some people are. Hopefully you just have normal twitching, need to hydrate better, and stretch before and after activity - that's how I was for decades of consistent exercise before I was diagnosed. No need to see a doctor if it is not bothering you.

My main reason for worrying because everywhere it states that focal fasciculations in one local spot constantly is a sign of MND or ALS. I am petrified, I am only 25 years old and have a wife and 2 small children to take care of and I want to be there, I keep thinking that it's the worst because I have twitched in the EXACT same spot on my shoulder 24/7 for a month!! I am afraid that the nerve is denervating and dying and because it is only a few muscle fibers this is the reason I have no noticeable strength difference, although I have developed a tremor in my left arm and hand, same side as shoulder twitch.

Oh grasshopper - forgot to mention - read through BFS in a nutshell in the symptom management section. defd - you should too if you haven't read it; may help you to gain some perspective. You are reaslly making yourself nuts with this - most of us understand in the sense that we've been in some similar spot with a symptom but can't you see that we are all OK? Well, basically we are, but who's perfect anyway?

I pray to god that I am ok, these symptoms are very weird and everytime I try to explain it I come back to the worst scenario. Now I have tickling feelings all over my back like bugs are on my skin and like water is dripping down my back. I hope it is just the anxiety making my hairs stand up on my back and not a ton of fascics.

Ded - I have had twitching in the same spot for a month before - im sure lots of us here have. Physically you are fine - you have SEVERE anxiety - I mean severe! Your 25 years old you DONT have ALS. You dont have any weakness - if you had als your muscle would be dead now and you wouldnt be able to raise your arm. You should not be reading the internet - you need to see your doctor to deal with this SERIOUS anxiety. If you dont get help for it you may very well have a nervous breakdown - which is much more serious then your twitching. You need to see a councilor or psychologist much more then a neuro right now. Please try to find a bit of calmness I think alot of us here are probley worried a bit about you.

Grasshopper you are right, I am a nervous wreck right now and I did go to my GP two days ago because it was killing me. Currently I am on Prozac and he told me that it could take 1-2 weeks to kick in and calm my nerves. I will come out of this after my EMG, I am a mild hypochondriac, I have worried about having lymphoma and brain tumors before, unless it is bad and then I will REALLY be a wreck!!! But I have adressed the anxiety/depression issue and I know by the grace of god that clean EMG will be like a new start at life!!
