Twitching in Calves and Feet?

Does anyone know if there is a reason the twitching is so prevalent in the calves and feet? Just curious if anyone has gotten a medical or physiological explanation for it from their docs.Jenn

I don't know for sure but have a sneaking suspicion it is at least partially due to the fact we use those muscles so much. I know for a fact that heavy use of certain muscle groups will result in twitching in those areas. I ride a stationary bike a lot which is heavy use of my quads, and boy oh boy after a tough ride I will sometimes have crazy twitching in those areas. We are always walking here or there which involves the feet and calves quite a bit so it seems reasonable to me...

Yea just makes me wonder why when I'm sitting all day at work and not using them they are just going constantly..like having a bubbling stream running through the lower half of my body :)

\\I read somewhere that it was because that nerve is the longest in ur body so the signals have a longer route in which to find problems. I dont know if this is true. \its just what i read.

Yes the nerves are longer to the feet, followed by the hands. That is why our hands and feet tingle more. We do use our feet/legs more AND the calves and thighs are bigger, so they will twitch more. Also when you are sitting you are partially cutting off circulation to your legs/calves and feet so that is why you feel them more. They are asking your to move around and give them more nerve juice.Plus anytime we stop our motion and focus internally, we will sense anything that does not feel right. It will chill out. BFS causes neuropathy to various degrees. Neuropathy basically means "Nerves Behaving Badly". Lyrica, Klonopin are drugs that can chill out nerves but I would consider those things a last resort. I know how yo feel Jen. My feet twitch constantly. Luckily the muscles in the feet are small so I don't even notice them but if I look, they are always twitching. Somebody posted here once about this. Their nurologist said that it is very common for the calves and feet to be affected the worst with BFS so it's nothing to worry about.
