Twitching in Both Calves

I have been reading on here for a couple weeks now and just have to post my story for reassurance. I began twitching in my right calf a couple weeks ago with big twitches and a day later the left started. I had been working out a lot but never any issues before. Both calves are tight but don't hurt to stretch. The twitching only happens at rest, specifically with bent knees. Legs straight, no twitching. Movement, no twitching. Strength is good. I am on my feet all day at work 10-12 hours with no issues. I have started a little twitching in quads and hamstrings, and a few in shoulders, arms etc. I wish they were more widespread. The twitching is very mild now, doesn't bother me nearly as much as the worry of something bad. That's all I can think about with my daughter and wife. GP said he wasn't concerned and I am scheduled to see a Neuro soon. Please help put my mind at ease. Also, my calf feels a little weak but I was out 3 times over the weekend shoveling. If what I have read is correct, I would have noticed weakness by now. And doesn't als present in only one side and usually distally? Thanks for any help.

Yes, you're correct. Als usually doesn't present by noticeable twitching, and it usually starts in the extremities such as the feet or hands. There are exceptions to this, but the chances are so low that you would present with twitches first and no weakness that it's not rational to worry about it. I hope your neuro appointment gives you peace of mind, as I'm sure it will. Happy New Years.
