Twitching for 20 Months: Tests Normal?

Everything has started 20 months ago with twitches to my right triceps. A few days later it was the left calf, then my feet and finally everywhere. The triceps did twitch almost constatntly for a couple of months. Eyes twitches did bother me constantly for 6 months and more. Meanwhile there were the tests and the exams. All of them reassuring and reported as normal, despite the high CPK and the fasciculations. Doctor's report and discharge were as "normal".So, you would think if you should see me pushing weights at the gym. But, if you should ask me about the fasciculations, I should honestly tell you that I think they got worse, albeit there have been good days.As once, generally speaking, it was a muscle at time to give me problems, now several muscles are twitching at the same time.Cramps have been an on/off issue. It is now months that I do not have one.My personal experience, and I herein would like to outline the word "personal", is that fasciculations may get gradually worse.I've not a reason for it, but I suspect they did start at some stage, thus there must have been something to trigger them and, unless that something goes away, then...As I'm writing this post is my left calf which is twitching. believe me or not, this has been silent (better saying not twitching that often) for months and months. Both upper and lower limbs are fearly active. My trunk is also "fibrant"...I can confidently say that there have not been significant stressors in these months. So, I've got not a clue about the real reasons sitting behind all this.I suspect nor everybody's story is the same, nor the problem is the same for all of us. It may be, but I never had the "resolution phases" and "getting better" reported by some. This is my story, 'til today. All the above may be reassuring from some and concerning for others. Even for myself, both apply!I'll keep you posted as per usual.

Sorry if I'm asking you to repeat info you've already provided but I think it would be helpful to me and others. What tests did you undergo to determine the cause? Did you have your parathyroid levels checked? Did you have your calcium ion levels checked? Did you have an ANA antibody test? What medications have your tried? How disruptive are your symptoms to your life other than worry about what is causing them and the future implications?Krackersones

Not a problem Krackersones.Neuro exam+BTs+EMG (May 07) (Ca and all the rest checked...)Neuro exam (3)+BTs (everything+ Auto-Ab of all sorts), EMG Feb-Jun 08 (EMG May 08)June 08 discharge ad normal. The only deranged values were CPK. In view of my muscle mass, heavy traning and strenght, and exams, this has always been considered as normal and no one bothered asking to be checked again and/or being further ivestigated.I remember that I had CPK checked about 15 years ago and they were high as well (again, I was training a lot).I must say that my symptoms have started when my training regimen was everything, but as demanding as it has used to be for 20 years now.Are my symptoms disruptive? Psychologically in some extent, but I still do whatever I was doing 2 years ago.By the way...I believe Neuro. I just think that there is something we don't know which is causing BFS and that could be extremely difficult to identify. Possibly because it is largely believed that this is a benign condition and even a relatively common one.

My symptoms to have only worstened, even though nothing was found to be medically wrong with me. This thing has me totally baffeled, just living with as you, I guess it could be worst.

edadoStar,Thanks for recapping your workup. I think the biggest point you made is that it only psychologically impacts you, so I take that to mean you don't feel physical discomfort. I wish the psychological was all I had to deal with even though that is no small matter either. The hyperexciteability of my nerves is very uncomfortable and I just can't get over how it all just appeared in such a short time. It sounds like you workout pretty hard. I think I've read that that in itself can cause some of these symptoms. I have been asked if I do intense workouts by neuros as if I said yes that could be an explaination for my problems.Krackersones

Krackersones,You're right. I've heard about that a few times too, and some friends have the same problem too (shoulders, calves...), but then I didn't have it before and I had been training much harder than I am nowadays. The onset was sudden and, to my knowledge, the severity of twitching deranges from the norm and certainly from my norm up to a couple of years ago.So, I can't very much account for what's happening. Than your palms twitch and you get scared...The forearms twitch and there you are again. Physically I'm performing well, but I've got to control my fears everyday.

as part of the update, I've now changed my profile picture with one that I've just taken. Back twitches did bother me quite a lot for more than a year. I'm as fit as I was. Just a bit more fat than a few years ago. But, that's all another story:).However, I do swimm as well as I did in the past and I'm as strong as I've been used to be.And I'm getting older...
