Twitching Everywhere - June 2008

Hey everyone, I have posted a few times and thanks to those that have responded. I started twitching in my calves in June 2008 and now it's everywhere on my body with the twitching, calves, legs, feet, nose, arms, back, butt, etc. Last July 2008, I had an EMG and nerve test done about 6 weeks after the twitching started. It was normal. However, the twitching has spread more now to everywhere. I last saw my neuro on Nov. 4, a few weeks ago. Since then, it feels like the twitching has become more intense and I've developed those knee problems where my knees are swollen a bit and something around my knees pops and feels like something is moving. My neuro still called them benign fasciluations a few weeks ago but that was before my knees went weird. I called his office yesterday and he says I could do a repeat EMG next month but with a different doctor in his practice because he's so booked. Do you think I should do this EMG or not? Seems like if he was really worried, he'd want to do the EMG himself. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks a lot for all your support and words!Larry

If your doctor didn't suggest it or in fact recommend it, I wouldn't. That's just me though...I didn't want to have one to begin with, but the doc said to do it, so I did. I wouldn't voluntarily go back in for that! The nerve conduction test shocked the hell out of me and an EMG isn't exactly a pleasant experience.

i second jeffrey on that!! you have been twitching for 17 months now without weakness and have also been cleared by a neuro = BFS. symptoms may change but bfs stays benign, although i understand that new symptoms can be very scary.after so long time of twitching i would not want to have another emg done and i think your knee problems have nothing to do with bfs or any other dreadded desease. maybe you should find out more about the knee problems and you will see that there´s no connection to anything sinister.

I've been twitching 17 months too with no weakness. I went to the neuromuscular specialist I see and talk about here a lot a few months ago and asked about doing another EMG because it had been a year since the last one and a year since the biopsy showed denervation. He said without weakness it served no purpose. I told him I had over a thousand dollars I put aside pretax that had to be spent or lost under IRS rules (health savings account stuff for those in the U.S) and asked him to suggest some test that might be helpful since my symptoms (twitching/tingling) were not improving. He said he could not recommend any test. This is coming from someone who did my muscle biopsy when I had no weakness and clean EMGs, so he is not opposed but rather in favor of testing. So if he doesn't recommend it, I think that weighs strongly against doing it. Actually I think the main reason to do EMGs and biopsies without weakness, is when you have doctors and insurance companies who will not help you with symptoms or with basic tests regarding possible causes because they do not believe you when you describe your symptoms. The tests for me got my insurance company and doctors to take me seriously and stop telling me I was lying.

Sounds like you are like me.....you are doing fine until you go to the doctor and then you start noticing weird symptoms....and then you freak out and get anxious, which causes more symptoms. Sounds like you are fine. I have so many weird symptoms, it aint fair. buzzing in my feet and back...pain in my pelvis, twitching everywhere, a little bit of stiffness after inactivity, etc....I think we are fine....just getting older and more nervous.
