Twitching and Exhaustion: BFS?

I have twitching 24/7 in my calves and feet. Since this BFS thing started I am tired all the time, especially my legs feel tired and weak. This weak/tired feeling added to my early ALS anxiety. I also accept that my tired feeling may come from a little depression from worrying about my heath since the twitches started. Here's my question though. Do y'all think twitching can burn energy and make you feel tired, especially in the areas that are twitching? I guess why I am asking is because I twitch at least 50 times a minute in my left leg and 60 times a minute in my right leg. That works out to nearly 160,000 twitches a day. I know that a twitch can't use much energy, but maybe it adds up over time....you know, after a month... I've twitched nearly 5 million times! I would guess a twitch is about like blinking your eye, doesn't use much energy and you never notice it, but I know if I tried to blink my eyes a 100 times a minute that after only a few minutes I'd be exhaused. Okay maybe that's a screwy analogy....Maybe someone who understand physiology can explain why a twitch would or wouldn't burn energy and make us tired. What do y'all think?

Well I'm sure Joe or Darr will have a more physiological explanation than me, but this is what I do know. The constant twitches do and will cause muscle fatigue. Why wouldnt it?? If your muscle fibers are constantly firing, your muscles are going to grow tired more easy. Anxiety, depression, and stress are very taxing on your body as a whole, and WILL cause you to feel like you have been ran over by a Mac Truck. But also I believe that BFS hits your system as a whole and causes fatigue feelings, jello type feelings in your arms and legs sort of like when you have a bad flu or Mono. Be sure you are getting enough quality sleep, because if not it will only aggravate these feelings. With all this being said, this type of weak and tired feeling is not the same type of weakness you get with ALS, its just not. Sure they get fatigue, but they dont feel weak, they ARE weak.Hope this helps a littleRobynn :D)

I would attribute the fatigue to anxiety and depression, not twitching. BFS, especially for the beginners, is mentally exhausting--which leads to feelings of physical exhaustion. I tired out much more quickly in the beginning of BFS which caused me to worry more, which made me tired and on and on in a vicious circle.

I agree - depression and anxiety are energy killers. Anxiety puts you in stress and stress can affect all sorts of bodily functions loading down your system. However, if you are not getting a good night's sleep due to bfs or anxiety about it of course you would be tired. Times when I've been awakened with cramps and the next day *yawn*. It does make sense that an active muscle will use more energy than a passive one - goes with some people noticing a weight loss. But you can't overlook the thought process on all this.

I have the same and there is no doubt my calfs are tired as a result. They feel tight and cramp and when doing exercise and certainly cannot last as long as previously. No doubt to me we are working the muscles and they get tired. All the best.Rob

I agree with twin two-anxiety or depression. My BFS came at the same time as chronic anxiety (GAD)- the result chronic fatigue- big time. Went to anti depressants ( lexapro) and for the most part that feeling has gone. Would get it checked out if I was you, it is a horrible feeling, no motivation to do anything! cheersRodger
