Twitching: A 3-Year Journey

I stumbled upon this site i think 9-10 years back searching desperately for some information on twiching.I thank the guys for maintaining this website for people with this benign condition.I always read postings but never posted anything from my side.I suffered for three long years, started twiching in July-August 1997 and got relived in December 2000.I also had the same anxiety as all the people but at that time i did not exactly had this fear of ALS.I was worried about what's wrong in my system as the doctors did not have any explaination for the problem. The doctor asked for some blood test and EMG all came out to be normal. Then doctors told me its all anxiety that is triggering the twiches.I started doing yoga and meditation to calm myself and hence relieve myself of anxiety to help reduce twiching.Yoga did help me to relax but there was not much improvement in reduction of twiches.I was in sort of a situation to accept it as a benign condition and carry on,but it was quiet difficult.I then just stumbled upon one of my friend, she happens to be a doctor practicing homeopathy. She took up my case and prescribed me two drugs 1. zincum metallicum 2. Kali Mur .I started taking these drugs and within 4-5 days i started noticing reduction in twiches and eventually in a month it went away.I still am amazed how these drugs helped me relieved this condition in contrast to allopathy having no answer at all.I am thankful to whatever helped me in overcomming this condition,In my case it was homeopathy.Today 9 years after getting cured i get it once in a blue moon like any other person.I am happy and really value good health as a precious gift.I would thank again all the members of this site who really share their personal experience and help others to find solace in their problems.

Kali Mur is just another name for potassium chloride. Interesting. Thanks for posting that, that's a supplement I haven't yet looked into.

Mariomangler - Be careful, I looked this up as I have a friend who is a homeopath and I thought she could help. I found this and it looks as if potassium can be harmful if not taken carefully. One interesting fact is that my husband has been told that his potassium levels are low and his diet is almost identical to mine. Maybe potassium is a problem for us but it looks like something not to be meddled with lightly! I tried magnesium but it gave me diahorreah - woo hoo! Spell checked that and it was right first time! I've looked up foods with high potassium and spinach is there - I read a thread on here the other day saying that spinach helped someone a lot! Wonder if there's a link? I eat loads of raw spinach and my twitches are nowhere near as bad as they were. No wonder it made Popeye stronger! Zincum metallicum is a wierd one - I found senseless websites related to eruptions and discharges! Yuk!

I've found potassium to be helpful but was advised to take potassium gluconate. It is one of a few supplements I take in moderation. I wasn't really sure if they were doing any good so stopped for a few weeks - after ~5 days I started feeling worse. I wish someone could tell me what any of this means!!!! Hahaha - I am still thinking that any of this means something, silly me. Reverse placebo effect? Why would I need so much potassium when I get plenty in my food? Especially when nothing definitive has popped into the great minds of the specialists I've seen. I also use the EmergenC electrolyte drink sometimes and it has potassium (3 different compounds). Yes - you can take too much of it - anyone out there know which compound is the easiest to metabolize? ListoR - Zinc is also commonly used for boosting immune function (quite a few products out now with it) and online I found a test (from the medical journal The Lancet) that you can self-administer to see if you need it. Studies show that there is some evidence to support this but that it must be administered in the appropriate way (nasal gel) see this article about an investigative paperAll interesting stuff.

Wal97 -Yes I have some of the pins and needles stuff (periodic) and the falling asleep of limbs (usually mornings). I don't pay much attention to it, but upon reflection, it seems to get better with the decrease in the tightness/partial cramping of my muscles. It is more of an annoyance - one of the many mosquitoes that come along when the BCFS door opens. So I'd have to say yes, it does decrease when taking supplements or doing meditation, eating a good diet, etc. I really need to get disciplined and eliminate these one by one to try to see which of the group is most effective. It was actually a surprise that quitting all but my morning multi-vitamin had any effect at all - didn't expect it.............Aquaregia - a strange name unless you are a chemist! Do you continue these supplements still or have you quit them entirely?

I am visiting this particular post by me more then 2 years from my first post.....phewwwwwwwwwwwww......time flies by.... I am still doing well. but would be interested to know if homeopathy or any other alternative medicine helped anybody on this forum to get a total cure. I would love to hear others experiences. for me i am doing good, Its now 11 years i got cured of bfs and life is passing by fast several things changed in these 11 years and look forward to my life. I would tell people on this forum anxious about their condition not to loose hope but fight it.
