Twitches: Benadryl and Atarax

Hi everyone, just thought I would share what has helped me with my twitches and why,Benadryl and atarax. I take these when my symtoms flare up and they do help.I found this out because a friend of mine who has ms is good friends with a guy who researches autoimmune diseases. He has found that antihistamines not only cut down allergic reactions in people who have regular allergies, but also in people who's bodies seam to be inflamed by unknown etiology(virus, toxic substance,ect.).Antihistamines work by cutting down the immune response in the body.Since bfs is considered to be an autoimmune problem, I tried both Benadryl and Atarax. I believe without a doubt that the meds have helped me with my twitches.I started taking them 3 mos. after this whole thing started and my sx were cut in half.I now take them when I have flare ups.I will never be completely sx free, but I feel like I can keep them under control this way.One thing I have found too ,is that other meds(diflucan, antibiotics, head ache meds)can set my twithing and buzzing legs off like theres no tomorrow. So, I try to stay away from that stuff if I can.

Hi, I don't realy have muscle pains now.At the onset of this thing after I was bed ridden for 2 days,I had extremely bad muscle pain,it felt like I just ran 100 miles.I think its because my legs were just exhasted from all of the intense buzzing and twitching for 2 days straight. But ,I would think if you could calm the twitching w/ antihistamines your muscles would feel better.I mostly take them before bed because they are sedating. You should try them it can't hurt any thing .

It's interesting you bring up antihistamines. I developed a strange hoarseness in my voice that would come and go and sometimes got so bad it was hard to talk. I am convinced it is related to bfs because I have never had any problems with allergies. Anyway I have been on Claritin (Loratidine 10 mg) which is an antihistamine to control the hoarseness. If I stop taking it the hoarseness returns very quickly. I had to take this everyday throughout the winter even though there was not any pollen in the air. I have not noticed any changes in my other symptoms but it does control the hoarseness.

Hi Swift_TaySwift20, I'm not sure about claritin because I've only tried the other 2, but I do know if you take claritin-d it won't work because of the pseudoephedrine(sudafed) in it.Maybe you should try Benadryl at night for a week to see if that works for your other sx as well.
