Twitch Worries: Jan 2009

Hello Everyone I have been reading this forum for months and I thank God I found it as it has been so helpful; Heres my storyMy first twitch I noticed was back in early Jan 2009. Didnt really think anything of it untol like most I goggled calf twitching wihich then freaked me out.IT just so happened I had just had blood work done for my annual physical and had an Appt with My GP for the results. I have a very good GP who came highly recommendeed to me as my wife and I had moved to Florida . I was a nervous wreck and my BP was thru the roof when I went in. All my physica;l results on my blood work were normal. I showed him my twitching calves and expected to be sent rt to a neurologist. He took 1 look and said that I was fine and attributed it to nerves and aniexty as he told me that i was the most restless and nervous person he had ever seen in all his years as a GP. I explained my findings on the net and he quickly told me that I should stop doing research on the net. He told me that I had no weakness and that I was fine. Still as many of you here I found this hard to except. I was and still going thru a very stressful time in my life with the move. trying to run my biz from Florida and going back and forth to Ohio along with one of our Cats having to go thru chemo. My wife and I do alot with animal rescue and this is one of our first rescues. This is when this all started so I did tend to believe it was all stress and aniexty related. Along the way I found this forum and found it not only informative but also reassuring as I found there are 1000s of people with this affliction that quite frankly can drive you insane at times. I did go see another DR for a second opinion and he basically told me the same and gave me some Ambien for slpeeing better as I tend to get only get 5 to 6 hrs a nite. I really do tend to beileve that BFS is stress and anxiety related. I am a highly anious person all my life and do find it hard to relax.I do find like most of you that when I get a good nites sleep it tends to be not as bad the next day. My wife says when I am asleep she can not see any twicthing at all. Maybe when the brain is totally relaxed it stops it.I want to thank everyone on here for all the informative info I have read as it has really helped.

I am glad it seems you are doing better! It's a long road, and sometimes a battle everyday, but you definitely have the right attitude for handling this. Don't let it get the best of you! I am a native Ohian now living in NYC, I miss Ohio so much!

I moved from NYC to Ohio. Maybe there is the connection. I have my good days and bad. My legs and feet are the worst. It just drives you crazy at times. I am 8 months into this now and I just wonder if it is something I am going to have to deal with forever. I am trying to lessen the stress in my life but I have so much going on with running abiz and going back and forth to Florida. In the mean time I to am looking for the magic bullet that stops this

I am in Ohio, and I'd trade either of you Ohio for NYC or anywhere in Florida! Ohio has some great people but its geographically boring for the most part and the weather stinks!Cableguy, welcome to the board. Enjoy the twitches, at least you don't have the cramps/pain and aches in the calves. I'm going through a bout of bad calf and leg pain and I long for the days when I only twitched.

Welcome aboard. I agree with you about the stress and anxiety. My BP hit a record high the day I went to the neuro. Consider yourself lucky your GP put you at ease. I have a great GP, but I could tell he wanted no part of trying to diagnose muscle twitching. At any rate, I hope things get better for you. BTW-how is the Ambien working out for you? I only get 5-6 hours of sleep too, but I'm really not tired if I can sleep that much. It was more like 3, and 4 if I was lucky when I was really freaking out about my twitching.Rest assured, your story sounds very familiar and you are right on about how great this board is. There are some really bright, cool and helpful here who have all gone through or are going through the same thing you are.

Just got the Ambien. i had been using some Tazadone for sleep and really helped me to sleep. I have always been able gto function on 5 to 6 hrs but alwats felt a bit tired. I think with extra stress and anxiety it has exasperated the condition. i am trying to get 8 hours a nite to see how that helps
