Twitch Reoccurrence Stressful Times

hard to believe i am going down this road again, about three months ago soon after a very stressful time i developed a twitch in my thumb ( single incident ) a few weeks later it happened again, then a week later it became more frequent. i now get them a couple of times a day, mostly in the a.m. and occasionally in the afternoon. they sometimes are just a single twitch and then others seem like a tremor that lasts for 5 to 10 seconds, i will say that the more i think about it the more frequent the occurences. Hard to explain but it's definitely there. I was diagnosed with Bfs 9 years ago and had all the symptoms described throughout this forum except in my hands. So you can imagine my anxiety level when this started. I can't believe i'm going down this road again. i will say that i've had fasciculations consistently for the past nine years and quite frankly was o.k. with them, constant calf twitching, occasional bicep, chest foot etc. but this new thing in my hand has me very concerned, it is not constant, and i can feel when the twitch or tremor is going to come on, it happens and then it kinda of feels better, no more cramping. just looking for a little reassuance from others on this site. do others have similiar experiences, i am trying to avoid the avalanche of seeking doctors approval as well as drugs. the last time ( 9 yrs ago ) it took some zanax and 6 months of a psychologist ( taught me relaxation techniques, which i obviously forgot how to do ). i would like to point out that every once in a while i get a day or two without any twitching or tremor, i should look at that as a sign of encouragement but its hard because i somehow fear something else is wrong. as i said before this site is very beneficial and hope some feedback will be helpful. thanks to all those out there. sincerely oldschool

Oldschool,Try not to worry about this, the thumb twitch/tremor is a very common symptom of bfs and it is also not uncommon that someone develops a new symptom after a length of time. This is just a new way of your body expressing the nerve hyperexcitability you have. My advice is to try to look at this new sx as part of bfs, and see if the significance of it can be reduced. You know that the twitching alone cannot hurt you, you got to have faith in that. This is not any different than your calf twitching and fits very well within your diagnosis. Hang in there, try to refocus mentally and I'm sure you'll be able to get passed this just like you did with all the other symptoms. Kat

Here is a video of my thumbs: . That isn't exactly what I would consider as a muscle twitch. It is more like a tremor. Although this isn't a demonstration of a muscle twitch, I do have those all day also, and I can elicit twitches by excercising muscles.

Hi OldSchoolSorry to hear the anxiety has crept back in along with a new manifestation of your BFS. As you'll see from some of my posts over recent months, the old thumb twitching thing really freaked me out. I'm not sure why twitching of this particular body site freaks me out so much but it certainly does - maybe because it is harder to ignore, not being covered by clothing. I had a really full-on episode of thumb twitching lasting a few weeks and was something of a cot case in terms of my nerves at times during this period. So I can certainly empathise with how you might be feeling about now. From my perspective, though, it was great to read your post as you are living proof that BFS really is benign. You've had it for 9 years now and you are still here to tell the tale, with no weakness or anything else to suggest a more serious problem. I know that BFS is renowned for changing over the years and no doubt this explains your current situation. Hopefully this particular flare up will be short lived and you will be restored to your former state of well-being before too long.Kind regardsSimon

i had a progressive tremor in my left thumb. my natural doctor told me it has to do with the quicksilver i have in my body. i then removed my amalgam-fillings and did a detoxification-programme. since the tremor is gone! unfortunately my twitches are still here but better without drinking coffee and with regular intake of magnesium (without aspartame!!!).

thanks to those who replied, it's just scary to see your thumb move on it's own, i mean nine years ago i would be laying on the sofa, in a zombie state watching my toes move back and forth, crying and telling my wife, this can't be f****** normal. So, now after all these years a new symptom? it took many years to finally accept that these twitches were my personal demon and that i wasn't going to die because of them. i will tell you this the same stressor kicked in the anxiety or new fascics, nine years ago my dad died suddenly, three months ago my best friend and colleague, with whom i would sometimes work 6o hours a week side by side passed away suddenly. two weeks later, my thumb twitches, just nuts, i guess you never really lose the bfs, or so it seems, i'm sure the support from you folks will help as well as time, it seems time is the best relief. Anyway thanks to those who responded and as i wrote a coupe of weeks ago, to the site creators. nine years ago i was on my own, the neurologist sent me home after an exam and an emg, said relax you have benign fasciculations. that was it. He never mentioned my toes were going to start moving or fingers, etc. Maybe because they know it's benign. that is the key, remember that it is benign. to all a good day, i will keep you posted.oldschool
