tried to google this and found some results but not that many-- was wondering if any women out there who are of a certain age have heard of any link between twitches and hormones ( or lack thereof )-- i am 47 ( shhh) and wondering if there is a connection between perimenopause or menopause and twitches.

I am 45 and I believe that there is. I remember reading about women in perimenopause with a lot of weird muscle symptoms including cramping and twitching. I think there is a hormone component of this BSF, but just a guess.Sue

I am 51 now and I can tell you for certain that there is. I have been in menopause for about a year and one half and I have been twitching big time for about a year. I am using bioidentical hormone treatment, which also with other meds, has helped tremendously. This time last year I was a real basket case and it only got worse up until late January when I started seeing a psych who treats mind and body (he also treats with naturopathic medicine as well as traditional) and he gave my meds a major adjustment. Every two months, he checks the hormone levels and makes adjustments necessary to stay in balance. So, if you are of a certain age, yes, the twitching can be hormone related. Cindy

It's all inter-related. Hormone fluctuation affects your nerves - this is pretty common knowledge, no? Whether is is monthly or pre-, during, or post-pregnancy many women find times when they are jumpy or emotional for no apparent reason other than hormones. Stress made me black out mentally when I was pregnant - haha my physics teacher said that most the guys who did worst than me on exams wished they had my excuse - little did he know. Or me for that matter. Anything that affects, irritates, or over-stimulates the nervous system would cause problems with bcfs it seems......That's why some of us find at least a small amount of ease in changing our diet, lifestyles, etc.- I believe we are just finding ways to calm our nervous system and this helps us calm and deal with our symptoms.

oh i believe there are many causes for twitches--and i wish there were "tests" that could say what each and everyone is... but i havent seen too many links that support the peri-menopause or menopause stuff-- i am just wondering because i am definately peri menopausal--- but i also had a bad virus about a year before my twitches-- i had myoclonic jerks at night from it-- i am wondering if that is something else or related. i hope to link it all up and away from dreaded diseases. my neuro ( good one from johns hopkins ) said that restless leg syndrome CAN effect muscles other than the legs in some cases.....and that is a menopause thing isnt it ?? i will do more googling when i am mentally able to NOT LINK to the scary stuff and see if i find anything ---thanks for your replys-- welcome more....

Hi,I am in perimenopause and I am visiting en menopause forum. You cannot believe how many women have the twitches, jerks, buzzing, shaking... .There is definitely a link. The problem is that doctors don't know about that and there is no scientifical proof for it.Amica

Hi, ladies. My twitching today has been pretty mild, but my left leg and foot have hurt like the *beep*. I should have seen the chiropractor today, but just got too busy. I would also love to have that menopause forum. Hope you ladies are all doing well this evening.BlessingsCindy

I guess this website could be very helpful for the menopause/perimenopause ladies among us:power-surge.com. A lot of ladies on that board have symptoms very simular to BFS symptoms!Amica

I've only been twitching for about a month, but it was real bad when it started (twitching all over, constantly), and that was when I was menstruating. Then the twitching seemed to get better. I thought because I started supplementing with cal/mag. Now just the past couple of days my twitching has increased again, and I just got my period yesterday. So there could possibly be a correlation. Not sure. I'm 40, so I guess you can call me pre-menopuasal.Dawn
