Trying Melatonin For Sleep Issues

I tried melatonin last night because I've been unable to sleep since starting Zoloft over a week ago. I know I just have to work through this initial phase of starting an SSRI, but I'm going insane from lack of sleep. Well, I took 5mg of melatonin and it did not work at all. In fact, I had more sleep starts than ever and couldn't even nod off. I'm not sure what to try at this point. My doctor probably won't prescribe any more Ativan once my script runs out. That worked sometimes. As a result of no sleep, my twitches are out of control today and I am excessively anxious. There is a new sleep aid on the market. I think it's called Restoril? It's a combo of melatonin and herbal supplements. Has anyone tried this? Would a script for Ambien work better? I'm pretty sure I could call my doc today and get something. I was just hoping for something a little more natural.Becky

Try meditation. Look into progressive relaxation exercises. The first couple of times I tried them, they always accidentally made me fall asleep.

I too have been suffering from sleep deprivation lately. I tried melatonin too and it does not work for me. I don't know if you need to take it everyday for a while for it to work. My friend swears by ambien but I would caution not getting hooked on sleep aids as they can become very dependant. I always find that my sleep is better when I don't have to work the next day which I am sure is psychological. I really never had sleep issues until I developed BFS symptoms. I hope one day for this to pass, I need my beauty sleep!!!

I was given amitriptyline but even half of a 50mg tablet makes me really groggy and horrid the following day. It does help me sleep though!!

I'd also rather try meditation of Valerian root tincture (herbal and harmless) than taking chemical sleep aids. You know, the medication will make you tired all day, against the tiredness you'll take another pill which will have headache as a side effect, then you'll have to take aspirin for that headache and soon you gonna be eating pills like smarties. This can't be good.By the way, same here... I ALWAYS sleep bad when I have to get up early next day and I sleep like a baby when I don't have to ^^.

ouch!! zoloft.... i took 1 tablet of zoloft 8 years ago and i was shaking all night and did not sleep it was horrible...... oh god i hate zoloft.... sleep aids work really well valium does the trick every time>

I have used ativan for over 2 years. I used to worry about the addictiveness of it, but I've been at 1/2 mg and not needed to increase. However, I try not to take every night all the time. I will switch to trazadone for a period of time. I am a terrible insomniac and both have helped me. I am trying to learn to fall asleep without anything meds, but its taking some retraining. I like to listen to meditative cds when trying to fall asleep. They help sometimes.Cindy

I currently use Xanax as needed for sleep (.5mg). I've tried various alternative remedies with no success (at least since having this stuff). I have also used trazadone (50mg) for sleep and it worked well, but I felt tired the next day..... I've also used chamomille tea before sleep...which helps a little but was not long lasting.
