Treating Globus Sensation Due to Reflux

Acid reflux can cause this lump feeling, called "globus sensation", right about where you're experiencing it... It would also explain the burning feeling. I've gotten globus before, and like one other poster, it went away after beginning PPI therapy for reflux. Reflux can act up more when under anxiety, I've found.

I have the same problem currently. Started with a scratchy throat. But then turned to extremely dry throat & chronic cough especially after eating, burning tongue, excessive belching etc.

GP put me on short antibiotics course for sore throat. Did not help. Thought reflux, took Mylanta, zantac did not help. Went to ENT, prescribed Prevacid, twice a day. Seems to be helping, cough & dryness is reduced but not gone. Also quit caffeine, spicy food - my favorite.

I had never had reflux before. i guess it is all because of anxiety/stress.

Take a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) whether you feel the burning or not. Many people who suffer from GERD do not feel any burning at all, but experience a lump in throat and the voice gets hoarse. There are lots of sites on the net and they won't lead you to ALS.

Also, give up: Caffeine
chocolate
anything with tomato in it
mints
and, yes, I am sorry booze

If you do that for two weeks, I guarantee the lump in your throat will disappear. I know, I had it.

Cheers,
Basso
