Tongue Twitching: The Hot Spot

My biggest bother with this twitching is definitely the tongue twitches I get. When I get them, they are in one "hot spot" only pretty much, sometimes an occasional small twitch on another spot, but in six years of tongue twitching I've never had the "bag of worms" look. It's always a hot spot that goes off with a vengeance for weeks or months. not 24/7, more like good days and bad days for a few weeks or months. Some days I'll have few or none, others hundreds. But in just one spot.

Does anyone else get that? It's definitely worse after caffeine (I'm in Italy and love the coffee here... even the decaf does it to me though, which I've switched to.

Another thought--red wine often seems to trigger it too. Like within the first few sips often. Any thoughts on whether that would point toward terminal nerve inflamation as opposed to anterior horn involvement? Mostly a curiosity... I can't think of how red wine could affect the anterior horn and cause twitching so quickly.

I'm referring to the debate over the origins of twitching...

I just had a "hot spot" sort of thing. It was just for a few seconds & it was in one spot---I could see it well.It wasn't fast like a twitch, it just kinda moved in & out on the side of my tongue. I went to the doctor, because like ALL of us, I looked up tongue twitching & got a heap of being sooooo scared! My doctor did not even refer me to a neuro. He said it was probably because I use my tongue to mess with my teeth so much & it got a spasm (cramp) in it. He said the tongue was just like other muscles, it can spasm, twitch, as well. He said true fasticulations were rapid (a firing off of the muscle). Has anyone else had this experience?
