Tongue Twitching: Self-Testing

I have had the occosional tongue twitching and it got me self testing again and being very hyper viggilant to my symptoms. I started to really analyze everything I say. I noticed that I make a whistling sound sometimes when pronouncing certain words. I also notice that my teeth hit sometimes when I speak. I have actually noticed myself analyzing everything and my speech is sounding weird to me now. I'm sure it's just anxiety, but looking for some reassurance.

Well I'm sure you dont want the reassurance from me but I happen to know that with Bulbar, slurred speech is the first thing to show, but it is never the patient to notice it or hear it. Its others around the person who notice it and hear it. The patient's brain it telling them that they are speaking just fine, but others will be making comments like "are you drunk" or "could you repeat that, I didnt understand what you just said", but you yourself will be puzzled by this because your brain thinks you are speaking fine, thats just how it works. To be honest with you, I have and hear issues when I speak, especially when saying my S's, but I just chalk it up to stress, anxiety making me hyper-aware, fatigue, ect.I'm quite confident that you and I are both fine, and will remain so. Try not to do what I did all summer, as I analysed everything to the point of exhaustion.Enjoy your Christmas, and try not to worry about this one, it happens to alot of us on here.Your friendRobynn :D) '

I appreciate ur response. I know we have had some battles on here, but I think it is because we are both head strong. Since we waived the white flag I hope we get to be friends. I assume your information you stated was gathered through the summer speaking to people on the als boards?

Of course we can become friends, and I agree about the whole head strong thing :D) Uhh no, not much of my info comes from the ALS site per-say, but rather from 3 of its members who do not have ALS but have done a great deal of researching and fighting the disease. And two of them work with ALS patients and one of them is in NeuroScience and also works in a ALS specialist's office. So instead of spending my time reading a bunch of posts by others, I sought out people who could help me figure out what was going on with me and how ALS works. Learned more than I really wanted to, so instead of sitting around with all the info, I decided to spread it around some so maybe others wont be as stressed as I was along there journey with BFS, Which is a sucky journey as far as I'm concerned. If you need anything else, just shoot me a PM, I'll be around, LOLYour friendRobynn :D) '

In the past 5 years, I have probably spent at least 1 week of real, actual time analyzing my speech. Watching myself speak in front of the mirror, listening to myself speak nonsense in the car, etc.

thank you everyone...went to my tmj specialist and I have major trauma on right side of jaw diagnosed by mri...cartilage is split in half...that plus anxiety def caused the symptoms...i hate all this als worry...its scary as hell...god bless...happy new year.

Well I'm happy to hear that you at least got an answer as to what was causing your symptoms, must be some relief for you :D) Take CareRobynn :D)
