Tongue Twitches: Worrisome Symptoms?

I know for me this has been the worst yet. I have ones that I can feel at random places all over my tongue, and ones that I can't feel...like the constant little pulse thats near the front of my tongue that never goes away. What are your tongue twitches like? Have you ever seen them with your tongue at rest? The thing that bothers me the most is that the majority of my twitches have subsided elsewhere and now they just go like crazy in the tongue.

Search my username for "tongue" and you will find a wealth of info on tongue twitching. Since I am a record holding poster (sad but true) and have had tongue twitching from the beginning, I have collected and requested lots of info on this topic. If your twitches have subsided anywhere, that is an excellent sign. Just remember you are not the only one with this and the nerves can do weird unexplainable things as we all know here.By the way, people going through menopause get burning tongues. I even saw a study once where they showed something was going on with the nerves. Nothing serious but it shows you that lots of things do effect the nerves in weird places and for different reasons.Krackersones

I just got a personal email from a former board member. We email regularly. Her tongue has been twitching for over ten years. She complained about this symptom again in her most recent email. She has autoimmune issues based on blood tests over time but no clear diagnosis. She lives a very active life despite her symptoms.

Same here. Tongue twitching on daily basis, along with other facial twitching (jaw, lips, nose).Let me tell you a little anecdote. A few moths ago I had a job interview where I was asked how come I haven't been working for the past year. I told the person who interviewed me that I had some health issues and I thought he would be polite enough not to make any further inquiries. Later I was invited for a second one with the CEO of the company and the VP. They both insisted to know what it was exactly that prevented me for working for so long. I ended up telling them that it all started with a tongue twitch... The VP asked me whether I was stressed back then and I confirmed it. His next statement blew me away, he said "I get those all the time when I'm stressed, especially on the tip of my tongue"! Think of the odds! (I did get the job by the way :) ).You are certainly not alone! All the best,May

May,Great story and congratulations. I wonder how many people have similar symptoms but know going to the doctor when they are not visibly ill will be worse than just wondering what is going on.Krackersones

Thanks Jro. I ended up not taking this job offer after all (big mistake, huge). I do believe however that tongue twitching are the kind that would drive people to see a doctor - its not like any other kind of twitching that EVERYONE experiences to some extant ( such as calves, fingers, eye - these are so so common!). This person claimed to have those tongue twitching for YEARS and he seems to be very relaxed about this, thus I assume he did visit a neuro at some point. I still remember the look on his face when I told him my little story... he really does believe that this is all stress related. In any case, yes it was "nice" to meet someone in person with a similar condition and see that he's well in shape after years of having this.

It's really not the tongue twitches that I can feel that bother me. It's the constant little pulse like twitch that never goes away and is about the size of a pencil eraser. I don't believe I've felt that spot twitch once.

Nervousmommy,I have had a constant (large) twitch in my left hand for over a year. I can't feel it either. It has caused no weakness. I really do not think there is any difference between a twitch you feel and a twitch you don't. They are all caused by the same phenomenon but are experienced differently depending on the anatomy of the area. If these physical differences in twitch types told us something, all the neuros would be telling us the same story about them and they clearly are not. They look for weakness and impaired function and even with that a diagnosis is not clear.Krackersones
