Tongue Twitch - 7 Months Later

Hello twitchers,I know that I've posted a similar video of my tongue before and haven't found too many current BFSers with the exact same type of twitch. My tongue just keeps twitching more and more every day. This video was taken today, 7 months after I first noticed this type of twitch on my tongue. It happens everyday and lately has been going most of the day. I can make it stop just by resting my tongue in my mouth for about 10 seconds, but even the slightest use of my tongue like eating and even talking will set it off. So if any current or future BFSers can relate to this type of pulling and tugging on your tongues, please reply to this thread. Selfishly, it will be nice to find others with this type of twitch, but also, I think any future BFSers will breathe a sigh of relief if they have this and stumble upon this post. I have searched and searched for this type of twitch and have found about 30 others who described something similar (but no one was crazy enough to video it, lol). This is the most frequent type of twitch on my tongue, however, I do get all kinds of tongue twitching. Flickers on the sides (both seen and felt), machine gun twitches in the middle fatty part, tingling, burning sensation, a feeling of my tongue being too fat for my mouth, slurring my 's's, etc. Its very frustrating. I'm hoping this just stops one day but I'm not holding my breath. I think I may just have to accept it as being my new normal. If tongue twitchers read this post, I'd be curious to know what you are experiencing as well. How frequently do you feel something on your tongue? What does it feel like? Can you see it? Have you found anything that slows it down?-Matt

Bobajojo, I don't envy you this twitch! Even knowing it is nothing bad must of make life a little less enjoyable :( Take care, I really hope you get better, you do not deserve so many twitching locations. I have yet to find one you didn't have. Eardrum? Hip? Quadriceps?

Ahaaaaa, i guess I am not alone thenI am going through the same thing and its pretty scary. My Tongue twitches 24/7, to the extent where i think its causing me to have a lisp.

desbanks,Does yours look like mine? I also feel like I'm slurring my 's's. Not due to any weakness or anything, just because its contracting like that. So f'ing annoying! -Matt

Jerry,Yes, I can feel it tighten up and release when my mouth is closed and my tongue is at rest. 95% of the time, I triggered it by talking, eating, coughing, etc. However, lately its been starting up while my tongue is doing nothing. Anyone have any horse tranquelizers? Maybe I should shoot up my tongue to make it stop! -Matt

You sound like my eyelids and eyebrows. When I cough my left eyelid twitched for 10 seconds. Now lately first it does the same but more vigurously and now left eyebrow twitches also. Also if I close and open eyes and some day even without provoking it :(

For any future BFSers who have tongue twitching and come across this post, I emailed this video to my neurologist to get his opinion on what might be causing it and if there is anything I can do to calm it down. I get these tongue twitches every day, all day. I know its nothing bad, but was hoping to get tips on what I can do (if anything) to get my tongue to chill out. Anyway, this was his response:Hi Matt,Thanks for the link to the video. Given that all other functions with your tongue, speaking, eating etc. are normal, and that our workup in the past has been very normal, it is still my opinion that it is benign. I would try not to worry about it but I know it must be very hard to ignore. We can still try a medication to decrease the frequency if you would like to try. Otherwise, i still think this is consistent with BFS, a type of neural hyperexcitability syndrome. There you have it: "consistent with BFS".-Matt
