Tingly Tongue, Pulse Twitch, and Trembling Muscles

Like an idiot I looked at my tongue today because it feels tingly. There is a fine pulsating twitch that comes and goes from minute to minute right in the center. Since it is not continuous & was never there before I know it's not a blood vessel. and the whole tongue trembles when I stick it out and jerks in spots from time to time. Also my face muscles tremble when I smile & my workouts seem harder & I sweat more. I am freaking out!!!!

I don't have any problems with my tongue but I can relate to the facial trembling. I sometimes get that trembling when I smile hard or scrunch my nose. I'm pretty sure I've had that symptom on and off for years. It's nothing serious, just embarassing if you have to hold a smile for a camera. A facial massage might help ease the tension.

Stop. Listen to me. I ruined my Christmas with the EXACT same tongue symptoms. My greatist reassurance is that my neurologist, too, had the experience and it is BFS. It took the better part of 4 weeks to go away. The other day, after regular coffee, I felt it going again. It stuck it out and right it the center, it looked like a heartbeat with little pulses from moment to moment. You will find that others have had the same post. It is a hot spot. I also was told that if it were something horrible, you could not stick out your tongue or press it into your cheek since the muscle would be so weak!

Relax, girl, you are going to be okay. ;)

Hang in there!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! It makes me feel so much better to hear others going through the same thing. If I stick out my tongue for my husband to examine one more time I swear he will cut it off!

ariza_z2021 is right!

One year ago I was 100 % sure that my tongue was twitching and I had tongue atrophy. I was looking at my tongue in every mirror I could (home, shop, restarurant). I exactly saw atrophy spots and twitching :p

Now I can see how stupid I was

Don't worry, if you can speak and swallow without problems you don't have bulbar ALS

StephG22, I'm not laughing at you, but rather WITH you!

Monday, all day, I kept asking my husband to look at my tongue (which I think is twitching, too), Worse yet, I would ask to see HIS tongue to see if it looked like mine.

I know it's not at all funny, but then again, you gotta laugh!

In all seriousness, I believe mine is twitching, too.

StephG22-

One night last year I just could not swallow. I mentally was resolved to have Bulbar ALS and no matter how hard I tried at that moment, I could not even get the motion going to swallow my saliva. Of course, it was all psychological, but at the time you could not have convinced me!

I did the same thing as GinniferLynne with the mirrors. I remember driving home from work with my tongue out in the mirror at every light until I realized the person behind me must have thought I didn't like their driving!!! Anyways, I haven't really looked at my tongue, except the other day when I did have some twitching after reg. coffee. It is going to twitch and it may be for a while. I tell you, I asked my brother to see his tongue thinking it must be a familial trait. He stuck his out and it literally looked like someone had CARVED grooves along the survace--yuck, glad I don't have to kiss HIM!!! Anyways, all tongues are different in surface structure, don't compare yours. Mine is not perfectly symmetrical but is very close. Without SEVERE depressions and any other difficulties like choking etc., I would stop looking and just accept it will twitch. Some day you will get part way through the day and say, " hum, I am not twitching any longer on my tongue!!"

Don't drive your hubby nuts, I did the same thing and it really doesn't help your situation or give them any more compassion for our crazy situations!

I think I must have hit rock bottom the day I handed my husband a magnifying glass to search my tongue for the beginning of atrophy and fine twitches. It feels good to laugh at your stotries.
