Tingling in Tongue - Facial Twitching

Okay, here I go with another post of something that is concerning me.Yesterday evening, and today - I have had an almost constant buzz/tingle in the middle of my tongue. It isn't twitching when I look at it and doesn't feel like a twitch (although I have those too, but they hit just here and there).Has anyone else had this?My facial twitching continues on. My bottom lip is twitching as we speak...My health anxiety is at an all time high, so I haven't been able to take anxiety out of the equation to see if it would stop my facial/lip/chin twitching. This new symptom is really odd and disturbing. I miss when I would mainly just get calf twitching and a pop here and there on my body.Mitra

Hi Mitra,I don't know if I have exactly what you describe, but something similar. The roof of my mouth gets this ticklish almost tingling feeling. I'm not sure if it's a twitch, or if it's coming from my tongue or roof of my mouth. I can't see it of course, but it is so annoying because it comes and goes as it pleases. I've also experienced my first ever cheek twitch yesterday, my cheek was moving up and down with a twitch for about a minute straight.Sigh, just when I thought I was making progress, something new comes along and sets me off again.I know how you feel,Jay

Mitra, Consider this one big virtual hug from me to you. I'm sorry to hear you're still in a high anxiety state. Have you gone back to see your chiro or upped your visit frequency? I wish you were closer to Dayton so that you could come and get a good second opinion from my docs... I hope you feel better soon, but I'm sure it's nothing serious. You've been going through this long enough to know its not.

Thanks Jay! Maybe it's a side effect from watching RHOBH... (lol)... At least that still makes me giggle about how everyone knows about our "escapism" TV indulgences! But, all TV shows need to have a warning "if you have health anxiety, and you're using this TV show to escape from your hypochondriasis, you might not want to watch this episode".My cheeks have twitched too, just not as much as this one spot between my lip and chin. The other day I thought I was going to be able to go the entire day without experiencing the twitch, and I was sitting in freakin' restorative yoga and it went crazy on me. Yeah, yoga doesn't do much good when you're lying there breathing, and twitching away :)Mitra

Thanks SAM... I'll send you a private message and give you more detail, but I have been seeing my chiro more often, and it hasn't been helping. Really nothing has. He's trying tapping therapy with me, and I have been so good at doing it at home, and lo and behold, I'm not better. I have to remind myself how long this has been going on, but since it's so different than what I have experienced the past two years, it's so troubling and launches my anxiety and we know that is a vicious cycle that needs to be broken. For all I know, I had my facial twitching, which normally would have gone away, and the anxiety is just feeding it on a daily basis. But, this electrical buzz on my tongue is very disconcerting.I wish I could visit your doc in Dayton as well...just to get a second opinion on all of this.Mitra

Bwahaha, very true about our television habits. I'm sure that you don't have anything more serious than anxiety and BFS. I'd bet Adrienne's millions if it was mine to bet!

Hey Mitra,I have the same problem, right in the middle of the tongue. I've been having it for a while now. Actually, I couldn't tell you for sure if it's a super rapid twitch (buzzing) or some sort of tingling because I don't look at my tongue anymore. Anyway... I agree with you, it is extremely annoying! Hang in there!J.

Thanks Julia. It makes me feel better that I'm not alone with this. I de-classified it to tingling by the end of today. Now, it seems to have subsided a bit (I really hope I'm not jinxing myself)...I stared at my tongue several times today and truly don't think it's a twitch unless it's so tiny that it's not detectable by the eye. But, maybe that's the case. Who knows. I'm SO done with my facial/tongue related stuff. I just want it all gone. My right leg has been going nuts today with crazy trembly/twitches, etc., and I could care less (well, that might be an exaggeration - I care, but not in the same way as when it's affecting my head!).Mitra

Hi Mitra, Sorry to hear you're having a difficult time. You are definitely not alone. I have the tingling in the tongue and the roof of the mouth as well. This doesn't really trouble me as much as the tongue fasciculations do. I have lots and I mean lots of twitches in the lips (first the lower and now lately the upper lip) and the chin and cheeks, mainly on the left side. The tongue ones drive me crazy but the tingling I can ignore. You'll get through it, it's just another symptom. Just stay positive :)Anita

Wow, good point John... My anxiety is not well-controlled right now, that's for sure, and I wish I knew whether these new symptoms are rooted in anxiety or not. But, you're right - I'll only cause more anxiety by trying to figure out if they are.The problem with this tongue tingling, is that it doesn't go away. It went away last night for a while, but then returned again in the morning. I'm trying to see if cutting out caffeine might help. I'm just wondering if I should be visiting a neurologist for this, but it seems silly if it's just part of BFS and/or anxiety and I truly hate going to the doctor. It sounds like a lot of others are experiencing it too. And, thanks Anita. It really helps to hear that I'm not alone.Mitra

last fall and this winter I had some bout of numbness in my throat. a bit like after eating flu candies with procaine to stop throat pain. Because I usually started to cough after that and it disappeared, I believe it was something related to hyperexcited vagus nerve :)))I also found in my therapey sessions that same sensation is strongly associated with fear and lonileness in my childhood... do not know why (have some strange idea like being alone and eating occasionally some weakly poisonous mushroom in the garden - which is possible and we have here some mushrooms causing numbness and tingling in the lips and throat but nothing more practically). So at least it happens :)))
