Thumping Sounds In Ears: BFS?

Has anyone experienced a thumping noise in your ears? I have had this thumping noise in my right ear for three days. I would get a single "thump" or two quick thumps. The thumps increase in intensity when I chew food and I when I wake up first thing in the morning. I would have periods of silence (joy!) and other periods of lots of heavy bass thumping. I think BFS is the culprit. I get muscle twitches and spasms all over my body. Since the inner ear system has muscle tissue, BFS could affect that area as well. I have no hearing loss, no pain or fullness in the ears...just the crazy thumping noise! Anyway, this is by far the most annoying experience to date. I already have tinnitus in my ears and I don't need anymore unpleasant noises coming from my head. Later.THUMP, THUMP!diotz2

I have had ringing in my ears for quite awhile. In fact, they are really ringing right now as I key this in. The thumping you hear might be your heart beat. I mentioned something like that to my GP and he said there are some major arteries going right by your ear drum and you are probably hearing yout heart beat. Also, maybe twtiches could do it too.My ears sometimes feel like they are full of water and every time I move, I hear the wierd noise. :)

Yes, I've had a lot of ringing, thumping, wurring, etc. over the years. It could be BFS, but I know a lot of non BSF'ers who are bothered by weird "ear noises" also. I did go to an ENT when I was dizzy with ringing in the ear, otherwise, I usually ignore the noises and they go away after a few days or weeks with me. Hope it does with you as well. Denise p.s. this "reoccurance" of bfs with me started with ringing in my ear I think; the ringing is gone, hopefully the other symptoms are soon to follow. Best Wishes.

coldbliss,I am fairly sure the thumping in your ears you are getting are twitches, as I get these also as well as many other people here. I also have them primarily in the morning.

coldbliss,I have had this and I find it the oddest and most annoying followed by twitching of my eye. This is likely your BFS and it too shall pass.Kit

I'm an ear thumper too, mostly left ear. Strange sensation, isn't it? Started when withdrawing from an SSRI antidepressant. At first, it only happened when I turned my head, now it happens 'just cuz from time to time.-Dave

I visited the ENT doctor today. He found a pocket of hairs on right my ear drum! The noises were coming only from my right ear drum...what a coinkidink. He removed each hair. I am still getting the occasional fluttering sensations (feels and sounds like a moth is in your ear canal). But no big thumping or BOOM BOOM noises though. Yeah! But I do think BFS is still at play since I am still getting the occasional flutter/rumble noise. The BFS is firing up the stapedial and tensor tympani muscles around my ear drum from all of this stress and sleep deprivation. There is no muscle in the human body (big or small) that isn't affected by BFS. I will load up on some magnesium and keep my caffeine intake small this weekend. I just need a solid 6-7 hours of sleep for one night. I haven't a good night's sleep since this problem creeped up on me last Sunday. Tired and stressed out to the max. Peace and relaxation to everyone here.

Hi there, I am new to this site and this was one of my first and most annoying symptoms...definitely increased during periods of higher stress but tapered off in about a month..definitely my hot spot. How long did your's last

Ear thumping was my earliest symptom and is very annoying. To try and forget about it I used to turn a fan on and point it at my ear. Sounds silly but it worked. I dont get the ear thumping very often... maybe one here and there but nothing constant. Its all BFS ladies and gents. Love it or Thump it... er Lump it :D) .

TrisTrip or anyone out there HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!How long have you had BFS? I am just a couple of months into it and my neuro said no need for EMG. That freaks me out! Also have twitches everywhere, burning, cool sensations, jolts and jerks...been cleared of MS. Like everyone else, I strength test continually which is not good because I am a therapist and know all of the tests to do! Am I to just believe this diagnosis?

I've had BFS (diagnosed) for about 3 years. My legs have twitched since I was about 15.If a Dr. says 'no need for EMG' then there is no need for an EMG. I pushed the issue with my Dr. and sure enough, as confirmed by my unnecessary EMG; NOTHING SERIOUS just plain Jane BFS.I lead a healthy productive life with plenty of exercise. Today I've got this new 'eyebrow' twitch that makes me look insane - but who cares; it'll go away. Learn to reason with yourself; stress and anxiety are triggers for BFS.
