Thumb Pain and Sleep Issues

I have the same thing in my thumbs, boths sides.

I also get the sleeping thing. I've tried sleeping with my hands eleveted (usually resting on second pillow) and that seems to help somewhat.

I get the jerking fingers a lot - I've posted a lot about this over the past few months. Sometimes, my finger movements are triggered by twitches in the forearms but a lot of the time, they just move on their own. I went through about a two-week period where my right pinky just moved on its own like crazy all the time. Then, one day - it just stopped. About a week later, it came back again for a few days and now it's gone again. Sometimes, my thumbs will do this but not as much as the pinky. The pinky will kind of pull inward towards my palm and hang there for a bit and then let go. Sometimes, gripping things or working at something will trigger this as well.

Like 17Wildcat17 says, I also get this at night when just falling asleep or waking - or when having a nap.

I'm positive it is BFS - I had a second EMG test yesterday and pointed this out to the neuro and he totally agreed. I even asked him about PD and not a chance - it's BFS.

Hope this helps,

God Bless, Mark

No need to worry. Just part of bfs. I think the hands and fingers area is the most annoying part of bfs. I've been twitching in hands and fingers for 2.5 years now and I know it's a pain in the neck. I get the hand jerks and finger jerks your talking about along with them in my arm and leggs jerking and shrugging. I had a bad episode this weekend. I can't fiqure out why or what I did different but like you said I was just relaxing and watching tv and both of my hands were constantly jerking and in my fingers to along with twitching. I had aches and pains, tremoring, vibrations. I took some klonipin which I been trying ween off and that seemed to calm things down. I agree coffee makes it worse along with beer for me. Klonipin definitely takes care of things. My last neuro said anxiety play's a role in the jerking your talking about as well as bfs. I asked about the fingers twitching and she said it come the twitching in the forearms. She had name for it. Polyminimyoclonus. Benign she said. Things will subside. Hope this helps.

"The more worked up I get, the more they jerk. Coffee makes it worse and Klonopin makes it better."

This to me points right away from parkinsons. My mum has it and her finger movements are (and were when they first started) constant and did not come and go with caffeine or any medication apart from the dopamine agnostics specificaly used to treat her disease.
Secondly her finger movements are not a twitch but a rubbing of the thumb and pointer finger together. This is also consistant with everthying else ive read about the disease.
Thirdly you say you have a diagnosise of BFS, and your symptoms are definetlyshared by many here on the board. I honestly think you have nothing to worry about, but easier said than done as I know all too well! ;)

Garth,

My doctor told me that there is no test for PD. He said until I come into his office dragging one of my feet, he wouldn't consider PD as a possible diagnosis. Has anyone else heard anything to the contrary?

Is there a test for PD?

Good luck with your specialist!
