Thread title: Seeking Opinion on Recovery From Infection

Hello

I wonder if any of you will be so kind as to give me your opinion. I have read through some of the posts here and I am now convinced this is what I have had for over 10 years ago, see what you think

About 10 years ago I ended up in hospital with a bad chest infection. When I came out of hospital I felt awful for weeks after and had really bad cramp and muscle pain expecially in my neck and shoulders. One night I noticed my muscle twitching in my right arm near my elbow for no reason and I ended up squeezing my arm really tight to make it stop. From that night I noticed more and more twitches under my skin, not painful just annoying. This continued for the next few weeks an my doctor said it was perfectly normal and was just caused by post viral fatigue. Ten years on I still have the twitches and I get them everywhere. I also get really bad cramp in my left leg at night especially when it is cold and occasionally get bad pains under my ribs on my right hand side. I have visited my doctor on numerous occasions over the years only to be told I have a generalised anxiety disorder

The twitches themselves are not painful, they just feel funny. Sometimes you can see my calf/thigh muscles twitching through my clothes. I sometimes twitch in my toes and foot although this feels more like something crawling or tickling me and although it doesn't last long is V.
annoying. If ii hold my steering wheel on my car too tight (which is something I frequently do ) afterwards my thump sort of spasms and twitches.

Please can you let me have your opinion as to whether i genuinely do have something or am I going mad. Also in your opinion is my doctor rubbish

Many thanks

Jo,

Ten years ago, what type of antibiotics did you take. There could be a connection. Other than that, it sounds like classic BFS. One of the popular theories is that it is post-viral. As for your dr., without knowing your case history, I think he is full of crap. Though many believe there is a connection between anxiety and BFS, I personally don't believe anxiety is the cause when there is body wide twitching (That's just my opinion).

That's my two cents worth. Welcome to the board.

Thanks for your reply Gary! I thought I was the only person in history that had weird twitches like this but I find I am not alone. I am going through a stressful period right now and the twitching is a lot more frequent. I read through some of the stickys on this board and I realise that is quite common so I don't feel so bad now. My ex thought I was a hypochondriac when I said I felt tired quite often and had funny twitches but I now find these to be classic symptoms.

I am afraid I can't remember what antibiotics I took , I have a feeling it might have been amoxycillin but I honestly can't remember.

I just feel happier knowing I have got something which whilst annoying is not a major threat to my health. I know I have not been diagnosed as yet but the more I read on this site the more I come to the conclusion there is not anything else I could possibly have.

Once again thanks :D)

Hey, Jo:

Sure sounds like BFS. I don't want to be so harsh as to say your dr. was rubbish. More like, your doctor has seen similar symptoms, knows they're benign, but doesn't know what label to apply. It's my experience that even today, docs aren't willing to call this BFS, or in some cases they don't know enough about BFS to call it such. I agree with Gary, a doctor who says anxiety CAUSED this twitching is mistaken. I'm glad to reflect that I haven't taken a quinolone antibiotic, but I'm proof you can get it without antibiotics.

On a selfish note, I'm glad to hear you've been able to cope with this for a DECADE. Seems many of us are in it for the long haul. Ugh.
