Thick Saliva & ALS Worries

Hey there fellow BFS'ers. I have had a problem swallowing lately - I have really thick saliva, so I do what we all know not to do, and find ALS links everywhere. Somebody tell me they have had this please.

I had what felt like thick mucus in the back of my throat for over two months. I thought for sure it was because I was having problems swallowing and couldn't get it down. My throat felt sore, too. I thought about every time I swallowed. It all went away. I'm not sure if it was because of allergies or just all in my head. Try not to worry -- your mind can play tricks on you.

Hookem,

I'm going to take a wild guess that you are from texas. Am I right? If so, you are probably like me and suffer from seasonal allergies that are rampant here this time of the year. I had the "thick" saliva and difficulting swallowing for several months, and still do a little. It was amazing how fast it diminished when I quite focusing on it. That is the craziness of anxiety. You take a normal process that you always have had, and turn it into something dreadful. When in all actuality, it is the same allergies and swallowing action you've always had but never focused on it. I know it's easy to say and hard to do, but try not to focus on swallowing, and I'll also bet that your problem gets better.

Finally, you are not crazy unless I'm just to delusional to know better  .

Nope, you are not crazy! I hate to admit that one day I began timing how many times I swallowed in a day and swore it was due to excess siliva. I watched everyone around me and no one seemed to need to swallow like I did. I went so far as to spitting into a container for 5 min. then figuring how many liters this would be in a 24 hour period(great math problem, let me tell you that!!  ) All this after I called ENT to ask how much siliva a person should produce in a day.....oh brother, what was I thinking??!! It all passed when I stopped focusing on it.

I have had lots of allergy shots and can promise you that when the season is active, my siliva thickens....not just theory, but fact! Relax and just buy extra tissue and avoid dairy products for a bit. Let us know how you are doing.

ariza_z2021,

Forgive me, but I had to laugh my "@ss" off at your post.

Again, not laughing AT you, but rather with you (since I don't some really, really, weird tests myself) ;)
