Thenar Atrophy: Worried?

Ok I can hardly see it you definately need lighting but 3 positive things I can say and I am no expert BUT.....First of all, HAVE YOU JUST NOTICED THAT or HAVE U NOT PAYED ATTENTION?1.) If that was true atrophy it wouldnt just appear OVER night.2.) Your strength LOOKS fine and the bulk of the muscle does as well..3.) It doesnt appear your fasciculating in that spot and if that was true atrophy your twitches would be going crazy in that spot because its way Dying.Have you seen a neuro and have you had EMG?IF so then I bet its always been there....LovelyThat video really needs more lighting!

I noticed it a few weeks ago...and it has gradually gotten a tiny bit worse..i do not see twitching in that area..but sometimes if i had it presses against a cushion or pillow at night..it feels like tiny little pops kinda like static would feel or something...I also think tht muslce as a whole has gotten smaller, and it is smaller than my left one...I am riht handed.

Have you been to neuro seen EMG? I cant tell you how many dents and what I thought was atrophy I found...I just read though that the SMALLEST bit of atrophy say 20% causes 80% weakness and that just doesnt add up if that was true atrophy in your thenar.Again have you seen a neuro and have you had a EMG...also that place should be fasciculating like crazy if it was dying. I hope others weigh in here.Lovely

i have seen a neuro...he's actually a P.A. but has over 25 years experience...i've had to emg's one of my entire right side, which was normal, the other of just my right arm after I noticed this thenar issue, and all was good...he even stuck the needle right in the area i am worried about, and nothing...in one area of my forearm, he said there was a little irritation, bu thats all...he said not to worry that he's pretty sure im gonna live alot longer than he is!! But everyday i check it and self test probably 5 times a minute all day. I pick up and 25 pound dumbell, using just my thumb and pointer. I do thumb curls with a 5 pound weight..i squeeze a tennis ball....everything that requires the use of my hand I do with that thumb now .... how crazy am I going...i also have widespread twitching...alot of hotspots....Im just so scared of death...espicially when I look at my 2 year old daughter..that needs her daddy.

Stop watching your dent! get another trip to the neuro for reassurance. If it was something serious, you would've had major weakness by now ( because that dent is pretty big.. if it really was atrophy ofcourse )

All that heavy lifting and straining could cause damage. You could have carpel tunnel which does result in atrophy. Also I have these lumps on my wrist called ganglions. They can impede blood flow to the hand and cause problems as well.Sandra D
