First of all, I’d like to say thanks to those who responded to me this week when I posted with my frantic panic attack questions. Your reassurance truly helped and meant the world to me.
Second, I just got back from a neurologist appointment who assured me I was fine. And he told me something that I had never heard from any of the other neurologists I’ve seen – and I found it very comforting, so I figured I’d pass it along here. Please, if someone has some internet searching way to say this is not true, please don’t post it as a reply, because I am finding comfort in what he said – and I’m sure he knows what he’s talking about. Anyway, he told me that ALS affects the upper and lower motor neurons, and the weakness is caused by the lower motor neurons having a problem, and the upper motor neurons is what causes an abnormal neuro exam – like reflexes babinski etc. He said if you have a normal neuro exam, then you don’t have ALS, because in ALS you have BOTH upper and lower motor neuron involvement.
Thank you again for all the comfort and support!
Julie
