Thanks to all: Bicep Twitching Mystery

First off I want to say thanks to all that make this forum what it is. You guys are great! My story- November 8th I started noticing my right bicep twitching. Sometimes a jerk and other times minor spasms. I didn't think much until I was just worn out a week later. Sleeping 16 hrs +/- a day. Went to clinic and had a ton of blood work and all looked good. Fast forward a month no change and a bit concerned that something is really wrong, though I have my energy back. Go to primary care provider and tell him and he sends me to a Neuro, but prefaces it by saying he probably won't be able to do anything for it. In the mean time I notice a twitch in my opposite bicep a couple times. I tell the Neuro and he checks me out visual and strength test. I pass all the strength tests and told him I don't have any apparent strength issues. He says he could run an EMG but he doesn't see the need to and says come back 1 1/2 months. Since that time my twitching in the arms has slowed down quite a bit and had a few twitches in my sides and both thighs (nothing consistent like the arm). I now notice twitches every few days in my arms or another spot, and both biceps are sore of and on throughout the day. Mostly my left bicep, but it doesn't twitch much. I also have one sore muscle group on the front left of my neck. No apparent weakness anywhere and starting to work out a bit again after my hiatus due to concerns with the symptoms. In everyone's experiences that have BFS, is this typical among symptoms? I have wondered if I have Lyme disease or something else, but docs think I am fine even though I have the noted symptoms. Which I like their opinion, but doesn't change that my arms aren't what they have felt like the previous 38 yrs of my life prior to this...I appreciate any comments! Thanks again...

No, this is not BFS. What you describe is NORMAL. Remember, this is Benign Fasciculation SYNDROME. Noticing twitching every few days is 100% normal. BFSers have twitches by the minute, some by the second. Not every few days. What you describe is not BFS.-Matt

Matt, initially my bicep would twitch approximately every ten minutes and last for anywhere from 3 to 45 seconds. Sometimes it would be constant over a much longer time frame and the heavier twitches would wake me up in my sleep. I just can't make sense as to why my biceps/triceps are sore and read it as one of the symptoms of BFS. I had a few other symptoms as well... do know the twitching is definitely not normal for my body previous to this episode.Just trying to figure it out. Hadn't been to a Doc in 10 years and now it seems like I am just getting passed around. Feel like I am working with attorneys with all these referrals. Oh well... Hopefully with time it will go away or I will figure it out. I appreciate the responses.

I know it doesn't feel normal when it is new. Apparently many people go through twitching bouts at some time or another. My GP said he sees about two twitchers per month and has yet to see a case of ALS. He does not refer to neuro unless there is some progression after a month or two or if someone is like myself and way too anxious about it to wait that long.
