Hi all~~ First, I want to say that was an AWESOME couple of posts by Aaron!! I can't thank you enough for that, and I'm sure I will be reading that over and over again!! It's amazing how your words will take something that makes me feel so isolated in my symptoms, and make me feel like it's something that alot of people get. It really helps me feel normal again. I'm sorry to bug you guys with a question, but I just had kind of a freaky (for me) experience last night, and was wondering if anyone could relate. My daughter and I went to a midnight show, and I didn't end up getting in bed until about 4 am, at which time I was of course, very tired, and I've also been sick with a cold, but wanted to make this show with her. Anyway, I haven't been sleeping well at all lately, because I've been waking up alot with that gasping for breath thing. Sometimes it's acid reflux, but other times, it's not that, and just feels like something has happened to my breathing to wake me up, like I stopped breathing or something. I hope this is not another sign of als, like my breathing muscles are messing up. But, last night, I was trying to get to sleep, and my twitches were dancing all over my head area; my temple, my jaw area, even the tip of my nose was twitching. I was having a hard time sleeping, because I could actually 'hear' the twitches when I would lay my head on the side, especially the ones in the temple area. The ones there were really freaking me out, cause it kind of felt like the temple would twitch, and that would go all the way down to my jaw, and move that a little. My neuro wants to send me for a sleep study, and I know I should get on that, since this could be sleep apnea. So, I was just wondering if any of you have ever had these things. I'm really worried, cause I think I've heard how als affects your breathing, and couldn't that be an early sign, that I am not breathing right when I lay down at night? Thanks so much for any help.....I hope you are all doing well~~Val

Hi Val,I have crazy sleeping times. I get twitches all the time and I can hear them too. I hate the ones where my fingers underneath the pillow move and the pillow sheets make such a loud noise, that there is no denying that they moved. I think that bedtime is such an odd brain activity time and that's when anxieties and feelings are swirling in our brains and it's no wonder that it's a harder time for some people.I'm scheduled for a sleep study next week. I don't know what to expect, but my doctor thinks that my crazy sleep patterns are contributing to the twitches and then the anxiety over the twitching is contributing to the sleep issues. It's all so chicken and egg, but I'm really trying to make lifestyle changes. This sleep thing may just be another step towards curing anxiety and reducing the BFS a little.I'm trying to establish night time rituals - praying, yoga, breathing, shower, quiet time with my pets (works for me) and then I read...rather than my old routine of falling asleep on the couch during American Idol or something!Good luck!Belle
