Terrified of Big Three Diseases

Thanks for reading my post and hopefully helping me set my fears at rest so my wife can stop thinking I'm crazy! I've been reading topics on here for about two weeks and they have helped a bunch but still have a little fear of having one of the big three ( ALS/MS/Parkinon's). I have been getting twitches for a while now and really just started paying more attention to them about two months ago when I googled it and what do you think came up? Yep, topics about horrible dieseases. Since then my fear has escaladed to the point it drives me crazy and can't stop googling topics and symptoms. I get widespread twitches that come and go. Maybe have a twitch or two in my calf then one in my chest a bit later. None lasting more than fifteen twenty seconds. I get them everywhere in my legs, arms, chest, butt, eyelid, you name it. The thing that has me worried the most is a muscle twitching in my right forearm about three inches back from my wrist you can see moving. Sometimes when it starts to twitch it cause my middle finger to move inward towards my palm. The twitch will last a bit then go away and return a bit later, nothing constant. I can feel the twitch in my forearm even when I am doing something like typing. This twitch has lasted almost a week now, is that normal? I can sometimes feel a pulse throughout my body, really band in my hands when I hold them together (could be my anxiety). I also have been having a problem with my hands falling asleep at night and wake up and it goes away.( no idea if this is even related to BFS but thought I would mention it). I have been to the doctor a couple times and she thinks nothing is wrong and no need to see a neurologist. She reassures me that I have no need to worry and if shes not worried that I don't need to be. I've had blood work and an MRI of my head and all came back good she said. Please let me know what you think, again thanks for taking the time and reading this!

Hi :) It doesn't sound like your doctor is concerned at all so you shouldn't be either. Your symptoms sound a lot like mine and many others on this site. I get the pulse feeling through out my body usually when I am getting very anxious or upset. My hands also fall asleep at night due to my sleeping position. Sounds like you have a classic case of bfs. Instead of google, use the search function here. You will find many answers to your questions. Hope you start feeling better soon :)

hi there, sounds very much like bfs to me...and the fact that your dr isnt the slightest bit concerned should reassure u no end....as for the twitches..a twitch is just a twitch no matter where it is...as for the hands falling asleep well ive had that for years long before i got bfs....work on your stress levels..and try and get your anxiety under control and this will become more managable....and everything u have described is absolutly normal for bfs....best wishes shannon

You know its interesting I thought that BFS was a pretty rare thing, but then I started telling friends/ family what I was going through. I now know three different people, including my brother-in-law that all have BFS symptoms. My brother-in-law got them becuase he used to consume large amounts of caffeine daily. At any rate, none of those people realized that they have this condition and all of them are anxious people. You will have some bad days as your bfs progresses where anxiety gets the best of you because a new and weird spot pops up or the symptoms change a bit. However if you work on learning to deal with stress better and relax, exercise and eat better you will find that you will become a more healthy person in the long run. I would also listen to your doctor and force yourself to put Dr. Google away. I would say that my biggest source of stress and uncertainty has been the things that I read online. After all I am sure if someone typed in pain in your pinky toe it would come back with all kinds of deadly diseases.

Just to prove a point I just typed in pinky toe pain and you would not believe how many people are freaking out because their pinky toe hurts.

Relax. You sound like any number of other folks on here. I was on here constantly until I went to a good neuro and got a clean bill of health. Now I get on a couple of times a year to check in and reassure the newbies. Everything you read from the mods is pretty much spot on. Twitches in and of themselves are not "normal" per se, but they do not necessarily indicate anything bad either. For what it's worth, I still twitch. It's been a couple of years since I really noticed them. They seem worse if I am sleep deprived or jacked up on caffeine. Relax and don't let a few twitches ruin your life. You will die someday and it will most likely have nothing to do with your twitching. You only have a finite numnber of days here. Don't waste them worrying about BFS.

Yeah, sounds like me.The biggest concern is your anxiety. If you cannot control your anxiety you will have a hard time controlling your twitches. For me, I just accepted my twitches as part of my every day thing….in fact, if I don’t twitch, I think there something wrong with me…
