Ten Shots for Teeth Numbing Shock

Thought you guys would like this.Yesterday I had to go in to the dentist to get a crown and a filling put in. And when they were giving me the novocaine, the hygienist and dentist were amazed at how hard it was to get my teeth numb. Whereas with most people it takes one or two shots, with me it literally took about ten shots per tooth. And even then the numbness would start to go away after about fifteen minutes. The hygienist said she had never seen numbness wear off that fast in a patient. Even when they switched to a much stronger numbing agent, it would still wear off in a couple of minutes. The dentist finally concluded that I was the hardest to numb patient he had ever seen. After I finally got my two fillings put in (which took an hour and a half, plus a syringe and a half full of numbing agent - he actually had to refill it partway through), the hygienist asked if my teeth had always been that sensitive. So I told her about BFS, and how I have hyperactive nerves, etc. I even pulled up my pant leg to show her my calves twitching around like crazy. She said she had never heard of BFS, but she wouldn't be surprised if it was the reason my teeth were so hard to numb. My nerves were literally finding ways around the blocking agents that they were injecting into my mouth. No matter what they were doing to numb me, my mouth wasn't about to be quieted or put to sleep. From now on, the dentist said he would always allow me an extra thirty minutes in my appointments because "your teeth are weird." I was wondering if anyone else finds their teeth hard to numb these days.I love you, BFS.

Wow, thanks for sharing, that is so incredibly interesting! I did have a filling put in about a year and a half ago, about 6 months after the twitching started (it wasn't as bad then as it is now), and I don't remember having a problem getting numb, or at least the dentist did not say anything. I remember long ago before the twitching started (years before) I had some issues with it once or twice... but they were trying to pull 8 baby teeth at that time, so that was kind of a lot to numb anyway.

I did not have problems going numb but my dentist got really irritated that I required numbing shots for what he thought should not be that painful. The pain was so extreme I could not believe he thought I would not need anything. He said I had the lowest pain tolerance he had ever seen. This was way before my twitching started but maybe it is related.

Yeah I have that too. I actually need numbing just for him to spray water or cold air on my bottom teeth. That always seems to surprise him. In fact at one point he was drilling one tooth and I could feel the pain in another. Again, he chalked it up to my teeth "just being weird."One thing that is reassuring about my tooth hypersensitivity is that I have been hard to numb and pain sensitive like this for about four years. So it's possible I have had BFS/PHNE for much, much longer than I realize. In my mind my PNHE started about 18 months ago, but it's possible that it started about two and a half years even before that. So that's the good news: I think a lot of people would be surprised to realize they have been twitching without weakness for a lot longer than they give themselves credit for.

Me too...sensative teeth suck and the toothpaste for sensative teeth doesnt work at all...imagine that! Mario...I need to talk to you. ;) ~*~Amy~*~

Numbing agents for fillings  ...jeesh whats the world coming to  My dentist says there's nothing worse than having to walk round half the day with a numb mouth he prefers this method

Ouch, and now the payoff. The aftermath of having 10-12 novocaine shots in my gum. Now the pain starts. The good news is now that I have an actual injury, I have no pesky little BFS symptoms.

I think your injury is external...and has started with this obscene facial hair growth stuff, and the urge to wear suspenders and ridiculously large brimmed, black hats...what was REALLY in those novocain shots Mario?~*~Amy~*~

I guess I should have been suspicious when the dentist said we both had to be naked and that I'd be face down with him behind me doing my dental work. *beep*. I guess it's true what they say, fool me nine times, shame on me.

    *jaw drops*He stuck you THERE?!??!!!! NOW it all makes sense!!I thought your voice was a little high pitched....LMAO!! I'm soooooo j/k! Maybe.... ;) ~*~Amy~*~

And here I thought my dentist was the only one that couldn't get it right with numbing my teeth. I'm really glad the beard thing didn't happen to me. Small things to be thankful for #279. My dental hygenist did remark on my increased jumpiness from her prodding and thought nothing of it when I said my nerves were a bit hyper sensitive in general. She implored me to drink 'white' wine to relax and not stain my teeth with red (I like practical people).Raindog - the video was gruesome and now I have to go get the whole thing to see what happened - all your fault. I thought it would be linked to little shop of horrors. My dentist hates that movie.
