Taming Fear After Neurologist Visit

So, since my recent visit to the neurologist, I'm not too afraid of *** anymore. But some things still bother me. This evening, when I tried to relax a bit lying on the couch, I suddenly felt my pulse beating so strong that it literally moved my whole upper body. It had already happened in the first weeks of my twitching, while I was extremely anxious, especially during the night. However, I also remember it to have happened sometimes before, but hardly ever that strong. I also remember that I already had pointed out a strong, visible pulse to a GP about 8 years ago and he just shrugged it off.Of course now I wondered, if I was right to ascribe this whole thing to my pulse or if it was a kind of twitching - which I don't think, since it also happens in the fingertips sometimes and you don't have muscles there. In addition I'm quite sure that it happens in the frequency of my heartbeats. The only thing that bothers me is that I once again googled (know I shouldn't do that) in order to see, if this is something common. And once again, stupid *** popped up in an answer on a medical board, that some doctor from Hyderabad (!) had given to somebody who described a similar symptom; this idiot from India listed *** as a possible cause. Of course the overwhelming majority of the sites where it appeared were anxiety disorder sites.Hence my question: has anybody ever experienced this kind of pulse movement or shaking and has anybody ever heard about something like that related to ***? I just don't want tor freak out again.

@ Anxious Guy:I don't think it's just hyperawareness. Hyperawareness may increase the sensation of it. However, during the first weeks it sometimes woke me up in the middle of the night and the strong, visible pulse in my fingertips has already been seen and confirmed by several people.

So visible pulses are a sign of *** ? I can see visible string pulses on the inside of my elbows and the fleshy bit between my thumb and finger !! It's strong and pusling !! If I lay on my back I can see my stomach pulsing from my heartbeat lol I have had that forever !!

I thought it was always the last thing on the list as there are so many things to rule out before you get to *** DX ? I don't know, I am knew here but I do get the strong pusles but they are in sync with my heart beat so its only a pulse..

Wow, you described perfectly what I've been experiencing! I thought I was losing my mind! But that's exactly what I feel -- like my upper body moves in rhythm to my heart! I also have a kind of internal shaking feeling at times, but that's different -- this is actual movement. I have a lot of heart palpitations recently, so I figure that's what it is. I know what you mean about looking stuff up. I read somewhere that the internal shaking/vibrating thing can be connected to several pretty serious disorders and got all worked up...but when I talked to my neuro about it, he didn't seem the least bit concerned and said that he knows people with BFS can have it (although he doesn't have the faintest idea what causes it). Stay off the Internet!

Hello princessshelia,so at least I'm not alone with this and I'm not crazy! I still have no idea what it is, but it might be related to some kind of dysautonomia (which happens for example in stressed or anxious people, as well as in people with Ehler-Danlos-Syndrome, something a number of people here seems to have).

I've had the strange vibration feeling sitting at my desk and the feeling of my body moving with my heartbeat too ... I thought it was because I was so anxious and tuned I to my body ! I could feel small hairs move on the back of my hands etc ... Things I just shouldn't have been so aware off ! I stay away from doc google and really don't want to know what vibration means ... I went there about twitching and I ain't going back ! Passed a clinical, EMG & NCS, seen 2 docs and a neuro who say BFS and that's what I am rolling with..

Anxious Guy:That is very wise. And please don't worry about that vibration thing. I have it all the time, and you'll see that many people on the forum have it. My neuro was not the least bit interested in it when I mentioned it to him. I brought that up only to make the point that googling symptoms can make you nuts. I'm an idiot sometimes. Health anxiety is the pits!

Sorry, I didn't mean to stir up new fears, I was just seeking for some reassurance. AnxiousGuy is right to relate that pulse thing to anxiety/stress and princessshelia is right to stay away from the internet. Googeling for reassurance just doesn't work. I had to learn it the hard way these days. You google a symptom, because you want to hear that it is completely harmless, that many people have it or that there is a simple explanation and 99,99 % of the things you find in fact indicates one of these. But you will always find at least one more disturbing entry (like the infamous: "in my case headache was the first symptom of brain cancer") and your anxiety will focus on that instead of the 99,99% who say that everything is o.k. with you.I take the fact that you find the pulse thing on a lot of anxiety websites as an indication that it is something related to anxiety and the fact that princessshelia's neuro has told him that "internal shaking" (which I don't have) happens in bfs as another reassurance.

I'm 10 months into BFS and recently got a diagnosis of Spinal Stenosis that has been the cause of atrophy in my left calf and weakness in my left toes. I had EMG's, MRI's and full body medical as well as cardio testing during my diagnosis period. For the first 4 months when I first experienced muscle twitching I also had a very strong heart beat which was my biggest concern at the time, much more so than 24/7 twitching. At night my heart beat was like a drum and I could hear/feel it all through my body. When I was working at my desk if I put my right and left fingers together the pulse would move the finger tips slightly. And of most concern was after exercise the heartbeat was crazy strong in my chest that I really was worried as it could induce some kind of heart problem. I still twitch 24/7 but the heart beat strength is now fine. It just seemed to go back to normal over time and with rest. Personally I don't think it was perceived or imagined. I was seeing a very highly regarded acupuncturist around this time and he also commented (without prompting) that my pulse was not right. I've always been fit and very aware of my health. I have always run 10km in under 50mins and able to swim 2km at a fast pace.......I was still doing all that after BFS hit but the heart just didn't seem right. Bear in mind I'm not talking about a fast heart beat but a strong one. The pace has always been historically the same for me, it was just the strength that was concerning. I stopped sport for about 3 months and it was around this time that the pulse corrected itself. I'm now excercising again and fortunately the heartbeat is normal now.BFS seems to have such a wide array of causes and symptoms for people. One of the biggest early symptoms for me was definitely the strong pulse. And even though it's now back to normal now I still twitch all day everyday in my calves. FYI – one of my earlier posts also had a few people commenting that they had a similar symptom. I guess it’s just another odd symptom that for me went away over time.

I experienced the internal tremors when my fears were at their worst. Googling it was actually one of the searches that led me here. I also have the strong pulse issue. I can feel it as I lay in bed at night in various areas of my upper body. It was frequent with my initial fears and has come and gone a couple of times since then. At first, I wondered if it was twitching, too. But mine is definitely in time with my heart beat. When I Googled it I came across anxiety and aortic aneurysms (mine was predominantly in my abdomen at the time and has since moved around). I was fairly certain I didn't have an aortic aneurysm and chalked it up to anxiety. My blood pressure was also much higher than normal (also likely due to anxiety) at my recent appointments and I suspect it may be a contributing factor, as well.

Hi Cobber,Hi Steph, thanks for your replies which show that a strong pulse/heartbeat is common here. It's really weird; as Cobber said, it's not a faster heartbeat, but an extremely strong one. I think that it is either anxiety-related or a form of nervous dysautonomia (or both). I think Chrissi once mentioned that she was diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), which is also a form of nervous dysautonomia. It's interesting to see that the english wikipedia entry for dysautonomia mentions cardiac symptoms, difficulties breathing, numbness and nerve pain (symptoms that many people seem to have here in addition to twitching), but not twitching and cramps, while the wikipedia entry for the Emilyomouse "equivalent" (so called "vegetative Dystonie") explicitely mentions twitching and cramps as possible symptoms.
