Symptoms from Low Dose of Celexa?

I started taking Celexa (SSRI) a week ago. I'm on a low dose of 10mg once daily. Lately, I've been having aching in my left hand and my left shoulder and I'm wondering if it might be from the Celexa. I awoke this morning to a lot of anxiety. My heart rate was way up and I was really shaky (I'm not usually like that.. even when I worry about symptoms, my heart rate doesn't usually rise). Has anyone experienced muscle aching during the first week of taking Celexa? Its not a generalized aching, just in a couple spots.... my hand and shoulder.

Matt I had super bad aching in that same shoulder, i don't think it has to do with celexa though. And als remember your anxiety gets really bad the first couple of weeks then gets better. Not sure why it does this, but my heart rate went up also. Trust me, it will get better super soon. Ashley

Matt, Everyone is different with the side effects to the SSRI's. I took the off brand of Celexa and the first week my anxiety went through the roof! My body ached and I actually found it harder to run, as I noticed that my breathing was affected. All of this only lasted a couple of weeks and then disappeared. Hang in and it will get better and will take the edge off to help you realize how irrational this whole thing has been. My only complaint with the drug was that I felt like I was numb to the world around me as far as feelings go that is why i stopped. Squatch

I am a psychiatrist. Celexa doesn't ususally cause muscle aching, but it can certainly cause an increase in anxiety. Often this is temporary, but sometimes not.

This is what I related to with both Celexa and Lexapro:"My heart rate was way up and I was really shaky"I felt weird and drugged. But, Matt, I promise you, that goes away. It can take up to 6 weeks. I would also get lightheaded, kind of nauseous, and the heart palpitations were awful. That's why I'm very wary about getting back on.Most people don't feel the good effects for weeks. But, the good effects are really worth it.I know nothing about the muscle pain. I think that's just a coincidence, in my opinion.Mitra

Hey, I actually took this med before all this started  but never had any aching, however I know that your anxiety can be bigger in first 1 or 2 weeks. If it's not getting better obviously call your doc and try something else.Stay Healthy Sev

Hey BobJazzy, I met you once or twice in the chat room if I remember correctly. I am also about to start taking either celexa or lexapro. From what I understand, the first few weeks are expected to be associated with an increase in anxiety, which starts disappearing by the third week and the full efficacy of the drug should be felt by 6-12 weeks, though most people I've spoken to say you feel much better by the third week. The aches and pains are most likely a sensory symptom associated with that anxiety, if I had to guess. If it doesn't go away along with the anxiety, you should make sure to ask your psychiatrist about it next time you visit, because I'm sure it would be a common thing if it is not due to the anxiety, itself.Good luck with the SSRI. Hopefully this works for both of us!-AndrewS
