Symptoms and EMG Results: Concerned

I haven't posted here in nearly 3 months. I wanted to get some opinions. My symptoms started in july 2011 with burning and tingling. I started getting twitches and muscle soarness in Septebmer 2011. During this time i had EMG on my left leg, arm, and right leg. All normal. I had the left leg and arm done three weeks ago--totally normal, nothing mentioned as out of the ordinary. I started having swallowing issues in October. Had a barium swallow test in November Normal. Had endoscopy found small hiatal hernia which causes reflux. ENT and Gastro think my swallowing discomfort is from reflux and Globus sensation. I have had numerous neurological physical exams, probably 8 in the past 7 months all normal. However, i still have the parathesia, some twitching, and the swallowing discomfort. I have been told by neurologist and Gastro they don't think it has anything to do with ALS. I know you guys aren't doctors, but you are probably somewhat like me. I'm a mess obsessed with this disease. Any opinions?

Hi there I think u hit the nail on the head when u said "I'm obsessed with this disease"... After so many neuro exams, EMG's and all your drs saying it's not ALS guess what it's not ALS.....u have anxiety my friend work on getting treatment for that and I believe u will overcome a lot of these issues.... :D)

I am sorry to hear you are going through all of this. Burning and tingling and twitches plus muscle pain sounds very much the same as others go through on this site, me included. I have not experienced the swallowing discomfort but there are many on this site that do. I have other things like tremors and sensory stuff. It is very difficult when something like this comes along and very easy to obsess about it. Even after clinical assessments being normal, doubt creeps in thinking, maybe they are missing something! One of the observations that has been documented with BFS is an increase in anxiety as possibly being a symptom not just a result of symptoms. The kind of anxiety that is common with BFS is of health concerns. It appears almost like there is a feedback loop because the anxiety then appears to fuel the symptoms.

I agree with Shanny acct. Nothing you say even remotely sounds like ALS. With your clean emg's and and clean clinical exams, you can get it out of your head. You don't have it. Listen to your doctors. -Matt

Thanks for the opinions. I always feel better for a couple of days after the exam or test, i'll feel a pain in my hand or a tightness in my throat and i think maybe they didn't consider, maybe it's bulbar, maybe it was the wrong muscle. My wife thinks i'm nuts. The ironic part is i was never a hypochondriac before this. Didn't even have a GP before 2011.
