Suffering from Twitching for 5 Years

Alright, so I found this board about a week ago, and its great to know I'm not alone! I've had twitching problems on and off for about 5 years. It started right after I got Mono my freshman year of college...My last MRI was about a year ago, when My Neuro told me that I should just get the test done to avoid worrying. Of course it came out clean and the twitching stopped about a month later.

But, I started again about a week ago, and this time the twitching is coming with what i hope to be "perceived" weakness in my arms and legs. Its funny, I was up north with friends this weekend and one of my friends was reading a book about a girl that had ***. About an HOUR later my twitching started again, and I of course had to go google the symptoms. And now I'm CONVINCED I have it. Here are my symptoms:

-Random twitching and muscle contractions in arms and legs (mostly in legs, but I get them in my bisceps, shoulders, abs)
-Leg weakness but I can still walk across the room on tip toes and heals, stand on one foot etc. (I try to do wall sits to see if I can, and its hard but I can do it for awhile) I think that maybe my legs are still sore b/c I've been doing that like 5 mins a day!
- Sometimes my entire leg will jerk, or my body will jerk when I'm sitting at my desk
-I feel like I'm slurring my speech sometimes but I dont know if its in my head or not

I'm hoping I'm okay because I have had the twitching on and off for a few years, but the muscle weakness thing is new for me. Maybe I should get the muscle conduction test?

Help!

Worried,

Kim

It certainly doesn't sound like ALS, ALS to me knowlede doesn't wax and wane, come and go etc. Once you have it. you have it, symptoms progressively worsened. It sounds as if you are young, ALS typically doesnt attack the young..Yes, I know it does, but very rare.

There is a lot of support on this forum, people with the same fears, symptoms.

The key word you used is "random." Because in ***, the twitching is NOT random, and usually is concentrated in one area, rather than all over as in your case... even though BFS'ers often get "hot spots" for twitching.

Five minute sitting against wall? That's pretty good.

Leg jerking while sitting. Does this happen as you're beginning to doze off or nod off a little? The body will jerk here and there if you begin to doze off.
