Stuck Part in Throat and Coughing Helpless

For 2 or so weeks, I have the feeling that a small part of food or something is stuck in my upper throat, where the tonsils are (not the complete bite, just a small lump). The feeling is permanent but I have the feeling that it gets worse when I eat something. Like that there is a new piece which is stuck to the rest. Drinking and coughing doesn't help.Of course my fear tells me that this are bulbar signs, but if it would really be food, drinking or coughing would remove it wouldn't it?Also, I had a cold with cough 2 or 3 weeks ago and still cough with mucus (fear says that this slime is produced to help remove the food that is stucked).

I actually had that before a few weeks back. It went away after awhile. I wouldn't worry about it being *** though, as food feeling like it is stuck is more a sensory feeling and you don't get that with ***. I think they might call it a tonsil stone.Nettie

So I looked it up and found out that you call the feeling that something is stuck in your stomach a globus sensation. And if my source is correct, this globus sensation is not part of a neurological dysphagia. Can anyone confirm this?

exploringexistence, ZekesTraveller or anyone else who had this:Did this sensation get stronger after you ate something? Because for me it is getting stronger after eating something. And thats why I am so freaked out

My GF also noticed that I harrumph after swallow while eating or drinking something.I hope this is all part of my cold I had but I am so afraid of bulbar signs now :crying:

I know what tonsil stones are and how they feel. But this feeling is definately different. Thank you very much for the link nevertheless.Right now I think I have a normal cough but overinterpreting the symptoms

Have had it on and off for years and I don't have my tonsils. I'm having the symptom right now and it's been going on for several weeks. Had it last year as well for several weeks. I've had BFS for over 30 years and have had this symptom on and off for at least 15 years. It could have been longer though as I started having severe GERD about 25 years ago and had a lot of throat issues with that. I haven't a clue what it is. A couple of nights ago I woke up feeling like something was crushing my windpipe. My doctor thinks that was from my GERD also, it may be. I think I'll go to an ENT in a couple of months---just to make sure that there's no irritation type thing going on that I'm overlooking. I can totally relate to your symptoms though. Denise

As mentioned in a previous post, you might be experiencing symptoms of acid reflux (Laryngeal Reflux type). I have this type of reflux and experience that globus sensation/lump in throat. I don't have any other GERD symptoms except that lump in throat and belching. The lump gets worse after I eat. I'm currently taking a prescription version of Pepcid for this; however, I've been told that proto-pump inhibitors work best...but are expensive. I've also read/heard that a lump in a throat can be associated with stress...so, I would consult with your doctor and see what he/she thinks....

Phoenix 84, Do you have allerigies? I noticed this too when my allergies were really bad. The "lump" that I had was actually irritation from the drainage from my allergies. Good luck!
