The feeling of having something stuck in my throat is getting worse. What IS it??? Has anyone experienced it go away?? I have read on wikipedia but don't understand much of it.. Says in can be caused by an inflammation of one or more parts of the throat... For me the the whole BFS picture started with an infection... And its possible i have chronic lyme.. Waiting for more testing to be done..

Mine was 100% pure anxiety. From the feeling of a lump in my throat, to trouble swallowing, and the feeling of fullness...it all disappeared when my anxiety hit the road. That suffocating, throat closing sensation was always one of my first clues a panic attack was on its way, and when I was suffering through the initial weeks and months of dreading ALS it was a daily occurance. Sure, that feeling can be attributed to other disease processes, but which is more likely? You are worried sick over this and globus is a HUGE sign of anxiety. I bet one of the most predominant. I'm sure others will jump in and say the same. Frances

I had the hair in my throat sensation the other day & it freaked me out.. it was like my throat was vibrating!! I think you are way stressed.... I agree that it is a major anxiety symptom.

This is what I think it is (Wikipedia explains it nicely). At least this is what I experience (the symptoms feel like I have a pill stuck in my throat), and when you look at the cause, it makes perfect sense.Cricopharyngeal spasmSymptoms Sensation of a 'lump' in the back of the throat Throat feels swollen Discomfort - Lump can often feel quite big and pain is occasional Symptoms normally worse in the evening Stress aggravates the symptoms Saliva is difficult to swallow, yet food is easy to swallow - eating, in fact, often makes the tightness go away for a time 'Lump' sensation comes and goes from day to day Symptoms can persist for very long periods, often several months. The symptoms can be mimicked by pushing on the cartilage in the neck, just below the Adam's appleCausesStress and Anxiety. Other causes are not yet clear.

I had it for years - from a lump sensation to a clear pain.it is just anxiety, it causes spasms in the throat as it was explained. it can last for weeks and will go away with more relaxation.

Thank you all.I don't feel it fits with an anxiety theory in my case because it is there, at the same place, all the time, but maybe worse in the evenings. I don't feel it changes whether I am calm or scared...what does cricopharyngeal spasm mean? is it spasme in the part of the throat where I feel something i stucked? Ihave never felt a spasm or fasciculations in my throat..but felt it in the skin there.. Hmm.. this is so strange..I've read that globus sensation can happen when there is an inflammation in (a part of) the throat... I'm sure all my symptoms have something to do with an infection...(because of how it started and because i don't get normally sick anymore..infections only worsen my "BFS"-symptoms.. (In Semptember I'm going to take tests for possible Lyme becase I already have some tests ,inkl CD57, that can point to chronic Lyme. I have read that globus sensation can be a part of a Lyme picture as well.. )

Another qestion about this symptom: Have many of you been seen by a "Ear-nose-throat-specialist" about this? I've read that it should be checked because it CAN be a symptom of serious deceases.. I have never been checked for this, I'm thinking of asking my doctor about this.. long waiting time for all such things...

I haven't seen an ENT, because mine goes away. It will last for several days sometimes - and then go away, and then return later. If it was something serious, it wouldn't go away.I still get this feeling on occasion, but I don't stress about it anymore. And, it is appearing less often now than it was a year or so ago.Keep in mind that while you might not feel immediate relationship to stress or anxiety, that you're anxious right now over your symptoms. That in itself is enough to cause this to occur.I truly don't think it's anything serious with you, but if it makes you feel better - go get checked by an ENT. The reason I don't think it's serious, is that it seems that a good 75% (or more) of us have experienced this "globus" sensation. It's so common with BFS. Whether it's neurological, or it's psychological - who knows, but we all go through it. I think mine is caused by stress/anxiety, exactly as the Wikipedia article says.Mitra

i've tried once when I was younger - the doc almost pulled a head into my throat but found nothing...I had full size bloodwork - clean...I started to have it since my daughter was born - nearly 19 years ago...
