Strange Calf Symptoms: Help Needed

Hi guys, hopefully I get a few answers on this...Does anyone get the following symptoms in their calfs ?Strange crawly feeling like lots of small twitches ?Almost like a slight vibration or shaky feeling? If you look at your calfs you can see loads of little twitches but can't feel most of them as they are so slight and it almost depends on the right lighting to see them proper ? I feel good but my calf muscles are constantly just buzzing or twitching or crawling etc both legs although there is always on leg more active that the other regarding the twitches I see but don't really feel... Thanks

I get all that, and deep, strong twitches too that hurt almost like cramps, and I can see those.. Mostly I just feel like something is crawling around in there though, and lower legs feel almost constantly weak. Like you it's almost always one leg more than the other. I guess it's just part of this whole BFS thing.. :)

So if you watch you calves for a few minutes do you see snall ones you don't really feel too ? It seems to be a calf thing... But I get the shaky feeling also as if they are weak but I can still run up the stairs etc

I actually haven't really looked to see if I can see the small ones.. But the big ones can make my calf jump, lol! Weird. I could probably run if I tried, learned the hard way however that I pay for it afterwards.. I got over ambitious three days ago and did a whole 45 minutes low impact cardio (normally I can suffer through 25..) and the "all over my lower legs"-cramps, weakness and stiffness continued until yesterday night. I need to learn to accept that I have limits..

I do feel many strange sensations in my calves, but it is a common knowledge here, that calves twtch and buzz for 70 % or so of population, and only we are so 'blessed' to note that :)))I disovered that on my own husband who appeared to have thumb jerks, trunk twitches (both are known to knockk many of our fellows out with extra fear) and maybe a hell of everything else but never ever noticed them. Even having a BFSed wife did not made him a conscious twitcher :)

..and I do have that shaking/buzzing feeling also, almost all the time from butt down to toes... My latest weirdness is that sometimes when I sit I actually feel in my lower body like there is a small earthquake. Pretty strange.

Hmmm so no one has loads that they don't really feel ? If I watch the calves I can see them flickering on loads of different spots ... :-s I had an emg a couple of days ago and they said it was ok, just trying to see if other get that ...

Good to hear of another cobber lol !! It's the only place I see that type but calves are prob the no1 hotspot as a general twitching area ! My legs sometimes feel kinda weak but they aren't weak ... Strange but other have said the same..

I can't help but look at my calves.... I've got a light beside them and there's twitching almost every second!! So slight you need the right light but I guess that's what's causing the crawly feeling !! Anyone else get loads like this all the time ?

Okay take a deep breath and come back to reality. BFS includes twitches we can feel as well as ones we don't. It doesn't matter if its on your calf or somewhere else. I can stare at my flickering twitches (felt and not felt) under direct light all day long but where does that get me?

Jonny, I love your reply and your 100% right !! I just stare at amazement thinking how strange this BFS can be with constant twitches in my calves a few per second at times and its always flickering somewhere on the calves ! I do think calves must be one of the most active places ... I just started looking as my legs felt kinda weak but I can run up and down stairs and all that stuff so they can't be weak ... I told myself I would stop analysing and I am almost there but I guess I like to hear from others regarding their experience !

Hi! I have thousands of twitches I can see but cannot feel in my calves every day and have done every day for the last 3 and a half years. Really nothing to worry about at all. Also anxiousguy I live in Dublin so if you want to meet someone who has suffered from this for a long time I'd happily meet you for a coffee if you are ever down with us mexicans

Hi!I haven´t been in the forum for a long time but as I read your post I thought it might be helpful to post an answer to your question. First of all, like the previous posts of JohnnyRocket, ionyZarrion and cobber already stated calf twitching 24/7 and other pop-ups everywhere else on your body seems to be the standard version of bfs.My bfs startet (like many others) in my calves and they twitch since 2 years now. You have to know that a lot of people without BFS get these twitches in their calves but didn´t care about it or just didn´t notice it. Beside of this remember a statement of a doctor on this board who said that since he had BFS he looked always at the calves of his patients and got to know that a lot of them are twitching like mad in their calves, but they didn´t even notice it. Another point is that i read some studies where normal people without BFS where testet with an EMG and they find out that these guys twitch up to 100 times in a minute. So their twitched showed up in the EMG also. Try some breathing and relaxation techniques, for me they do a good job. Chronic Hyperventilation can make you twitch like hell.So after all calve and feet twitching seems to be the most common form of BFS and maybe you´ve had it for years before you first noticed it.I hope this helps a little bit.

Thanks Johnny, ionyZarrion and Mike !! It's a tough thing to get through mentally once you've had a bad time of it being so worried... Thanks ionyZarrion for the coffee offer, your very kind willing to put time aside like that for a fellow twitcher :) I am not in Dublin very often these days but I do have an office there, maybe some day we could arrange that coffee lol Mike... Your prob right about lots of people twitching away in their calves all day but the don't notice, I just feel that crawly sensation of twitches and started to watch them and there they were ... I am almost back on track guys regarding my mental well being, I won't lie ... At the height if my worry I was I'm a state, couldn't eat, anxiety to the point of adrenaline rushes etc Pure fight or flight mode...For some reason hearing more stories and hearing from more people with the same symptoms that have been there a while really helps put my mind at ease and is definitely a big part of my recovery process !This forum is awesome, I so glad I found it and that it has so many helpful active members ! :)

With having so many calf twitches does anyone ever feel like their legs a bit weak or shaky? Like a trembling feeling ? I just ran up the stairs, jumping jacks, hopped on each leg, stood up on each foot tip toes, walked on my heels, ran on the spot etc for 5 mins lol ... Sorry but I know how everyone feels about self testing but I am trying to understand this strange weak feeling...Anyone else get this ?

Last year I had a twitch on my shine bone! Or should I said in a small part of the muscle to the side of the bone, at first I could feel it, then I couldn't but I could see it flickering a for a 3 days in the sunlight or a bright light. This constant one in my thigh.... When I think it's stopped I look at it and it's still there , very slight flickering up and down, but I can't feel it. Then Sometimes it will be Stronger.Last year I asked a friend of mine (who suffers from anxiety) if she got twitches. She said no but I get this bubbly crawling feeling up and down my calves all the time when I stressed. She thought she had bugs crawling on her , I think they must have been twitches.

Ok Johnny.... It's just worrisome that my calves feel trembly ...almost feel like shaking !! It really is a strange feeling .... :-s but if you say it's something a lot of people here get them I will have to accept it I guess.

I get that bug feeling but if you roll up your trouser and sit and put one leg up onto the other knee you might see loads of twitching ... That`s why I started to look at mine as I had the strange feeling of bugs/twitching... I have been told its very common in regular people and BFS people..Is pain such as Sciatic type pain associated with BFS ? As I posted before that on and off for the past 4 years I get bad chronic pain on the right lower back almost into my buttock! I get months where its completely OK then it comes back.. NO since this BFS flare up its moved to the left buttock but not my back... Its really sore and I actually have to roll out of bed and its weak until I get moving.. Really sharp pain..Ibuprofen doesn't seem to help at all... Its been about 6+ weeks on the left side now..

If you have pain in the buttock, most probably it is a piriform muscle squizzing your sciatic nerve. There is no virtually other organs here which could cause pain - just muscles and nerves.Best way to clarify that is to see a surgeon or spinal specialist. That should not be neglected as it may really cause leg weakness (however not due to ALS of course).
