Staying at BFS Community - Tongue Fasciculations

Hi,Despite the fact that I was accused and attacked due to posting my knowledge, I would like to stay here as this is the only community for BFS I know about. Sorry if anything I posted was badly understood. I must admit that some of your symptoms really deny what I have learned and I think that is good (for you, for me..).One of the things is tongue fasciculations. I would like to know if anyone here has them in the form of sporadic twitch (now and there) when resting. The ones you can feel (probably its like buzzing) and see, that is important. If so, could you please describe it? It would help me as I want to do some research in this area as it seems that some facts are just not so true as I thought. Thanks.

I have never had tongue twitches, but there are lots of people here who have. It's no more ominous than any other twitch. A tongue is a muscle just like your calf muscle is. If you have BFS, it can twitch.

Thanks Mario.I personally get them on the tongue few times per day and I must confess, it does make nervous as I just know too much about it. Could anyone who has twitching in tongue reply please?

I do have tongue twitching. It started 8 or 9 month ago. I also have some kind of buzzing and electric feeling there

TwitchyMD, Tongue twitching as far as what my neuro has said, plus everything that I have read, is not anymore significant than any other muscle twitch that comes with BFS, I have twitched in every muscle at some point with this thing, even places I wasnt aware had any muscle to twitch. Tongue twiching is of no real significance unless it is accompanied by other symptoms such as difficulty swallowing ( and I dont mean feeling like you are having trouble swallowing) I mean, food sitting staying in your mouth or upper throat because your muscles in your throat have stopped working because they are dead or weakened. Trouble speaking ( not just slurring of your words, lots of people with BFS slur there words on occasion) I mean talking like you are very drunk and have a hop potato stuck in your mouth. Twitching of the tongue would be constant and would not stop and would be after you have had all the other things I listed going on first. So I agree with Mario, and say also that I and so many others on here have had this. I have had my tongue buzz, tingle, twitch, and quiver, but I eat and swallow fine, and talk way to much so I'm good. You are too.

My tongue has twitched for over two years. It is sometimes a buzz, sometimes a quick electrical shock, and sometimes a few quick pulses. It happens every day a few times a day and has for two years with no change, no weakness, or any other problems. The tongue stuff started within a few weeks of the other all over body twitches. I have had 4 EMGs all totally clean. The last one was last month.

hi Iam newcomer to dis board .i am twitching all overbody including the tongue since last 10 months without any neurodeficit.Ido have rapid fine finger tremors, random finger jerks.someday i'll post my whole story.Iam really thankfull to dis board which has given me aGREAT reassurance. REGARDS , Bailyloves.

It seems to be pretty scary. I do not care about twitching on my other muscles but the tongue twitch really immediately brings me down. I feel it like slight tingling on the tongue (still the same spot).Someone will similar experience?

I have never seen my tongue twitch at rest but I do not look. I just dont't want to see it if it is there since it will only make me more anxious. I know it is twitching (or otherwise doing something unusual) so seeing it will not give me more info. In other words the sensations are not in my head. I understand how this symptom is more anxiety provoking but it came with the others so I know it is simply part of the same thing and many others here have the same thing. I also communicated with someone who had tongue twitching for 13 plus years with no serious problems developing. I just assume mine will stay like it has for two years and just be "one of those things" that is odd but not serious.

Hi Twitchydoc,I am a daily tongue twitcher and it drives me to distraction. Like you , I can ignore it anywhere else but not there. I can cope when it twitches at the front but not when it is near the back or in the middle. Yes, I can watch it twitching like it is being pulled on a string, even when at rest. I also feel a pressure or squeezing sensation sometimes. I haven't had many replies to my posts on this (I am a fairly new Member) so would be interested in receiving a reply from you as to whether you have similar symptoms to me. In England this is a very uncommon symptom and my Neuro has never seen anybody else with it so is at a bit of a loss. Have had an MRI scan and am having botox injections into my scalp, also possibly going on anti-depressants. I take a tiny dose of valium in the morning but it has no effect on the twitching...maybe just calms me slightly.Look forward to hearing from you. Feel free to ask me any questions about my symptoms which may aid your research.Sarah-Jane

My tongue twitches daily and has been for 3 years now, like so many others here. I did see them several times, but like Jennifer I try not to look as it may upset me. I also get tongue contractions and the buzzing described, it's all over my tongue. I've had several clean EMG's throughout those 3 years and clean neuro examinations (several of them).I also twitch in my throat (with the "bonus" of swallowing issues due to extremely severe reflux/diaphgram hernia that doesn't react to medication - but that's a different story...), face and jaw (accompanied by stiffness - TMJ). I can't really claim that I'm doing well health wise (which is quite sad at the age of 36), but somehow I know it is NOT ALS. Rest assure that yours have nothing to do with ALS either.Regards,May
