Sore Calves:Twitches & Pain?

Does anyone have sore calves? Both of my calves are always sore. My right is more sore than my left, and my right has more twitches. It feels like sharp pain and i dont know if that is spasicity. I dont think it is cramping as it is not that painful or sudden. My calves are my worst spot. If it didnt have twitching in my calves i would not have a care in the world. (isnt funny how this condition really puts things in perspective) I am not exercising and have a desk job. Is this a concern? Thanks.

Thanks Robbie I walk about 2 miles at lunch and because i am scared, i ran up 3 flights up steps to make sure i still could. I feel like after i sit for awhile my legs get tight or sharp pains. I will try to "relax" this weekend and see what happens. These symptoms really do change your life. (I ran a 1/2 marathon 3 months ago, and now i am sore sitting at a desk)

Its a funny thing at my 30th b-day last september my MD said i should exercise more. (i am very active and in good shape but he said it would help with some heartburn i was having) So i started running. I worked up to a half marathon in May. My symptoms started in March (as i stared running 10miles on the weekends) but my calf twitches didnt start until after my race. (so a lot of good this running did for me) Now i twitch all over, but especially in my calves. I only run about 4-5 miles a week. I guess the fact is either my neuro is wrong or i am the exception to the twitching before weakness rule, clean EMG means no ALS, and 10 years younger than most people who get this. Only time will tell??? 22 weeks so far.

I'm not far off being two years into BFS. Thelast 3 months of this have been characterised by really sore calves, and I mean really sore. You are note alone!RegardsSimon

Robbiebfs - my symptoms have always gotten worse when my circulation is not great - like when sitting a lot, or in the morning upon waking. It seems counterintuitive but if you do something to increase the circulation in the area you should see an improvement. Static stretches are difficult for this so try range of movement exercises like foot circles or heel raises leaning forward slightly into a wall. LOL you can tell I've been at this a while. And yes, I am just fine and have no bad diseases - after ~6 years and every symptom you can think of except perhaps the tongue ones....All you guys ---- Also try this for sore calves - it really helps and is passive. Take a tennis ball or something similar and step on it barefoot in your arch while relaxing your foot. Roll it slightly front and back and repeat in different areas from high up on the metatarsal trying to let your foot curve slightly until you feel it stretching out. Let me know if it helps you.mjc - did your heartburn stop when your twitches start? Many people get this kind of transference thing. Or they have a hand thing then it moves to a calf thing then....etc., etc., etc. You have to ask yourself, if you are able to see these trends, as they may help you find a way to deal with the symptoms and heal (worked for me). Also there is no disease that does this - jumps around to different body parts (ask your neuro - mine said it doesn't happen with neurological disorders - they don't leave one area to go to another - ever). So maybe this will help you also.

imokwow this is awesome advise!!. I totally agree with you regarding moving around. If i am doing stuff, like mowing the lawn, or walking my legs dont really hurt. But if i sit, and when i get in the morning my calves are painful. I think twice every day when i put my feet on the ground....will i be able to stand? \The heartburn thing stooped well in advance of the twitching. I took some heart burn meds, and started eating better but i really appreciate you getting me to think about the big picture. My leg twitches (especially the right one) are 900% worse when i drive? Exercise or use of the muscle makes it worse. Is that a concern? I assume after 6 years of this (wow 6 years) you have seen it all. I may have to take some time and read your story.

That was actually my very first symptom. I hadn't done anything to make them sore and I was telling a lady about it at work and she said jeez.. Hope you don't have a blood clot. :crying: :crying: :crying: Then I had stiffness then came the twitches. Now I have occasional soreness, stiffness and twitches. It all comes and goes. I am going to the neuro on Tuesday. I am going to tell him all that again. I will post what he says.I also have a desk job. I used to be a PE teacher. Life was easy then. God what was I thinking giving up my dodgeball game.PS - I went to the dr after the chick said something about the blood clot. It was just so unusual to be sore there for no reason. She and my massage therapist said it was from sitting to much!

It is early in the morning now. I walk like a duck. Ankle, calves and front thigh are stiff and painful. Did not do anything special yesterday. It is just how it is. Apparently there are some of us with that problem. :)

Count me in, SJOB - I also have this problem too. I had to miss football yesterday due to family commitments and yet today my calf and thigh muscles are sorer than they have ever been and walking is a real effort. All part of BFSRegardsSimon
