Skin Elasticity & Aging - 30 y/o

I swear, I think the funky skin elasticity and denting (and loss of mass too) is due to plain aging. I'm 30 now, and I notice a huge difference in my skin elasticity. I think collagen levels must have something to do with this. I also notice more 'muscle definition'...more in the form of muscle outlines versus actual muscle bulk. I'm in good shape...only 110 lbs, but I definitely don't strive for muscle definition when I exercise. I think our bodies just change like this as we age. Really I do. Also, if you're paying more attention--you'll notice a lot more than you ever did before.

Compare the hands of a woman in her twenties to a woman in her sixties....you'll notice a HUGE difference. The woman in her sixties will have far more denting (like the metacarpal bones actually stick out) and wrinkling.

Really, it's purely aging.

The circulation thing you said makes sense too. I don't think it's necessarity tied to nervous system function--just general changes in aging too.

Increased blood circulation makes things puffier--uh, guess I could makes some jokes right there...but I'll refrain

No worries---and welcome to our club!

I can't tell by your post or profile whether you're male or female, but if you're male, you might want to find out your testosterone level. This is one of the issues I have, abnormally low testosterone for my age (35). Low testosterone leads to muscle loss. The older a man gets, the less testosterone he produces. What can produce low testosterone? You guessed it, stress, anxiety and lack of sleep. Of course, if you're female, you can probably disregard this post.

Amy,

What planet do you come from where 30 is old? You are young girl, and I've read you state how old you are so many times. I'm a ripe old 41 and I still feel young at heart -- and I still am young relatively speaking that is. You clearly have a great head on your shoulders from your heart felt and well thought out posts. Enjoy your youth and wear a 2 piece before it really is too late.

Ava--thank you! You're funny. I still do feel plenty young....but having BFS over the last year has really made me look back to my early twenties (before I had kids and before I had this 'ailment') and see the differences. I might still weigh the same as I did on my wedding day--but I see the differences that my thirties are bringing on. Don't get me wrong, I embrace the aging process. However, nowadays, when I hold my youngest son for more than two minutes, I have 'chicken skin' marks on my forarm that take quite a while to go away. I didn't used to have this issue with my first son....just solidifying the fact that our skin and muscle changes as we age--even within the time span of just a few years.

Sometimes it seems like a lot of us here tend to overanalyze what are probably 'normal' body processes as being part of the vague picture of BFS. We're all plenty guilty of microanalyzing every little thing...when in fact we should just roll with a lot of this stuff--as a lot of our symptoms happen to everyone at some point in their lives, not just us BFSers. It's a daily battle though, isn't it??

Thanks for all the feedback--keep it coming!
My atrophy/loss of skin elasticity came on over a period of only months. My wife sees it too. This is definitely NOT normal aging, but nice try.
I am a male, by the way, and had the testosterone checked several months back, as well as other hormones levels, etc...like all my other hundreds of tests--all normal...
This is so baffling.
