Skelaxin/Baclofen Experiences?

Hello Everyone,I was curious to know if anyone out there had any experiences good or bad with Skelaxin and/or Baclofen. I went in to see my neuro last Wed for the tight right leg muscles as well as shoulder/neck/face tension to see if he could prescribe anything to help lessen the symptoms and he gave me the samples of Skelaxin to try. I used them from Wed through Fri and did not really think they were doing much but on his advice I continued with them thorugh the weekend to see if the results improved. I will have to say that I do believe that my leg muscles were not as tight as they were and the shoulder/neck/facial issues seem to lessen greatly shortly after taking the meds but they came back before it was time to take another dose. With this being said I contacted him yesterday and he phoned in a prescription for Baclofen which I had filled as well as onefor the Skelaxin but I am apprehensive about the Baclofen do to all of the side effects and warnings, especially in regards to home you have to be "weaned" off of this medication to avoid possible "severe" side effects. I took my last dose of Skelaxin on Monday morning and felt pretty good throughout the day and actually did not take any even after having the prescription filled Monday night but shortly after waking today all of the problems returned with a vengance. With so much discomfort I did break down this afternoon and resume with the Skelaxin but I am still reluctant to try the Baclofen although I would hate not to if indeed it may work better. I am having increasingly more uncomfortable problems with the right side of my face and neck that travles down into the shoulder and even the Skelaxin does not seem to be able to rid me of that. Can anyone offer any advice on either or both of these meds ?Thanks So Much,Mike

Hi Mike- Skelaxin didn't help me (just made it hard to move around and I felt a little goofy). If you type it into the search bar you'll get others' views as a lot of people get this Rx......it seems to not work for bcfs in general. Baclofen has a bad rep with side effects - you could try searching that too. ANYTHING we take is going to be foreign and will be metabolized differently by each individual. I've had to triple my gabapentin lately; helps with the cramps but I am losing my phone and paperwork, forgetting what I'm doing, and getting vertigo. If I have to take any more they should take away my diver's license!

Mike,See if your doctor will give you Valium, (diazapam), as it GREATLY improves the tight muscles feeling in most of the people that take it. The down side is it makes you sleepy but most muscle relaxers are going to do that. I've told you before I take Xanax in a very small dose and it works very well for me. My mom had this....(without the twitching) for about 10 years during which time she took Xanax the entire time with no withdrawals and no side effects on her health long term. So.....keep tweaking the meds until you find the one that works. ShaunaP.S. If the Skelaxin isn't working, switch to the Baclofen after the appropriate amount of time. This condition is miserable enough as it is, there is no sense doing it heroicly if we can do it like child labor with an epidural.....:)
