Side Effects of Omeprazol

Side effect of Omeprazol ??Omeprazol is a medication that is used voor gastric acid complaints. It is prescribed very often. I am already using it for over 10 years now and I do not have gastric complaints anymore. The way it works is that it blocks the H+/K+ pump in the gastric cells. In my quest for possible relations with my BFS I now also tried to stop the omeprazol and I found out that this definitely reduces my cramps and fascics. After using it again, they worsened. Sir_Trouserz had repeatly pointed out the the importance of the K+ (potassium pump) block as a cause of the periferal nerval hyperexcitation syndrome (PNHE). In this way it would make sense. Sir_Trouserz, could you get a comment from your contacts on this.Is anyone else using omeprazol or sortalike gastric acid inhibitors for a long period of time?

I have a coworker that went on one of these medications not to long ago. He reported some strange sensations while on the medication. He quickly went off though so I know what you mean but hard to make an argument for it....yet! I have never used these medications but otherwise have BCFS. Keep us poste don what you find!

Interesting, I've been taking Nexium for several years, (tried Previcid & Prilosec two but had allergic reactions). I've taken these medications on and off since they have been on the market. I don't know about the twitching, since my twitching started well before these were marketed. However, my physicians and I think we have linked them to "the lowering of my white blood cell count". It's always been on the low side of normal but when I take these daily, it dips lower--when I stop it goes back to "my average count". I try to skip a day, but I have serious stomach issues, (have had several ulcers in the past). If they "mess around" with my blood counts I'm sure that they can cause some neuro symptoms as well. I'd like to not take them at all if I could. Best wishes, Denise
